Doctor Who Series 8: Into the Dalek

SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.

I enjoyed the second episode quite a bit. Some people were worried about Steven Moffat reusing things too much, but I think his new take on a Dalek was very interesting and unlike anything I've seen before. Peter Capaldi is as brilliant as he was in the first episode. Now that he isn't all weird right after the regeneration, we get a sense of what he's really going to be like.

I really like Danny Pink. I was excited to get to know him before I watched this episode, and I wasn't disappointed. I was worried that he would be a lot like Mickey or Rory, but he's totally different. He might become one of my favourite companions. I already ship him with Clara.

I am really excited about Missy. I hope that she'll be in every episode like she has been in the first two.

The next episode is Robot of Sherwood. I'm excited about this one because it's about Robin Hood.

More Agatha Christie (And Other Stuff)

I have been reading more books by Agatha Christie. (The ABC Murders and Death on the Nile.) They are quite addicting. Once I've read a bunch I'll make a post about my favourites and stuff.

Other random news: I am almost finished with season 4 of Merlin. Yay! It's a great show.

Also, I'm going to be starting school again soon. This means that I'm not going to be posting as much. Instead of posting once every two days, I'll probably be posting once a week. Maybe a bit more.

Doctor Who Series 8: Deep Breath

SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.

The first series 8 episode was amazing. First of all, there was Peter Capaldi who is BRILLIANT. He may end up becoming my favourite Doctor. I love that this version of the Doctor is "darker".

Then there was Clara, of course. I'm so happy that she and the Doctor are just friends, now. I never shipped them romantically. I think Jenna Coleman and Peter Capaldi work really well together. They're both amazing actors.

Then there are Madame Vastra and Jenny. After seeing this episode they have become one of my all time OTPs. Can they be counted as companions now?

The last scene was kind of random. I believe that woman is the main villain for this series. She looks slightly crazy. Good. I like crazy villains. Anyway, this is by far my favourite first episode in a series of Doctor Who.

Next episode is Into the Dalek. It's one of the episodes I'm most looking forward to in this series because Daleks are awesome. I know some people are complaining about Doctor Who using Daleks too much but I don't care.

And Then There Were None

I finally read a book I've been wanting to read for a long time. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I SHOULD HAVE READ THIS AGES AGO. I am totally obsessed with this book right now. It has pretty much everything a mystery book should have. It made me realize that mystery is actually my second favourite genre. I am panning to read many more books by Agatha Christie.

Just read And Then There Were None. You will never solve the mystery. In fact, you'll probably be completely confused till the very last few pages. But that is why you should read it.

This has been my review of And Then There Were None. As I've said many times, I'm terrible at writing reviews. But seriously, just read the book, okay?

Sabriel

I just finished Sabriel by Garth Nix. It was great. It had interesting characters and I really enjoyed reading a YA series written by Garth Nix. I will never love it as much as Keys to the Kingdom, though. I'm excited to read the rest of the books in the series and the new one that is coming out soon.

I'm in an epic fantasy mood this month. I'm really enjoying it. I think it is my favourite genre. I am, however, going to take a bit of a break from epic fantasy. Right now I am reading Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead and next I will be reading And Then There Were None by Agatha Cristie which I have been looking forward to reading for a long time. I will most likely go back to epic fantasy after that.

Seraphina (and Other Stuff)

I just finished a book called Seraphina. It is a book about dragons, and they are the most interesting dragons I have ever read about. The book itself was great. The characters were unique and interesting and the plot was engaging, not too fast or too slow. I believe it is the first in a series, but it is the only book that has come out so far (unfortunately).

Anyway, here is some unrelated news. I recently watched a movie called Guardians of the Galaxy. I did not like it especially (superhero movies are not my type), but still, I thought I might mention it. Also, Doctor Who season 8 is coming soon. For once I will be seeing it as it comes out (or at least the day after). i will most likely make a spoiler-y post for each episode. I am very excited.

Ash

I recently read a book called Ash. To be honest, I only read it because I searched "YA lesbian fantasy" on Google and it was pretty much the only result I got. I was hoping it would be really good. I did like it, but it wasn't what I hoped it might be. It's a retelling of Cinderella. Ash (Cinderella) falls in love with the king's huntress instead of the prince. While I liked the book, I would have loved it if it was longer.

In other news, I have started season 3 of Merlin. I am also freaking out because school starting again soon and I don't want it to. I will post much less frequently when September comes.

I've noticed that it's been almost a year since I started this blog. That is quite incredible.

Alignment

I found another new personality typing system. This one is primarily meant for typing fictional characters. There are nine types: Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil, Chaotic Evil. You can read about alignment here.

Since Alignment has nine types like Enneagram, I thought I could connect them. Of course, alignment is not the same kind of system as enneagram, this is just for fun. Real people are obviously not good or evil. It's just a joke.

Type 1: Lawful Good
Type 2: Neutral Good
Type 3: Neutral Evil
Type 4: Chaotic Neutral
Type 5: True Neutral
Type 6: Lawful Neutral
Type 7: Chaotic Evil
Type 8: Lawful Evil
Type 9: Chaotic Good

I am making some edits for a few different fandoms with one character for each alignment type. I will post them soon.

The Four Temperaments

This post is not about Myers Briggs. To be clear, this post does not refer to the four temperaments in Myers Briggs (NF, NT, SJ and SP). This post is about a thing that I have known about for some time but have not really looked in to. The four temperaments are Sanguine, Melancholic, Phlegmatic and Choleric. Click here to read about them. No, really, you should click the link. I won't bother explaining any of it myself.

I assumed I was melancholic, but I took an internet quiz and it said I was choleric. Of course, internet quizzes are not always right. Neither melancholic nor choleric fit me, but they each include aspects of my personality. I read that most people are a mixture of two of the four temperaments, and that cleared it up.

I honestly do not like the four temperaments very much. They are way too simple. Only four types? But I decided that I may as well try to link it to Myers Briggs because, hey, why not. This was my thought process:

First: The obvious. How do the four temperaments correlate with the four temperaments?

NF: Obviously not Choleric or Phlegmatic. That leaves Melancholic and Sanguine. Both are pretty NF-ish.
NT: Uh... Could be Choleric. Could be Melancholic (kind of). Could be Phlegmatic. Not likely to be Sanguine, though.
SP: Not Melancholic. Probably not choleric. Maybe Phlegmatic? Possibly Sanguine?
SJ: Could be any of them, really...

Okay, this isn't working very well. The temperaments do seem to directly correlate with introvert/extrovert. Sanguine and Choleric are extroverted and Melancholic and Phlegmatic are introverted. It also kind of seems as if Melancholic and Choleric are judgers and Phlegmatic and Sanguine are percievers. That would mean that:
Melancholic: INFJ, INTJ, ISFJ, ISTJ
Choleric: ENFJ, ENTJ, ESFJ, ESTJ
Phlegmatic: INFP, INTP, ISFP, ISTP
Sanguine: ENFP, ENTP, ESFP, ESTP
But, wait. Shouldn't ENFJ and ESFJ be Sanguine? They aren't Choleric at all. And do INTJ and ISTJ fit Melancholic best? This correlation isn't perfect. At all.

Well, let's keep the introvert/extrovert thing but instead of judging/perceiving, let's use thinking/feeling. Melancholic and Sanguine correlate well with F and Choleric and Phlegmatic correlate well with T.
Melancholic: INFJ, ISFJ, INFP, ISFP
Choleric: ENTJ, ESTJ, ENTP, ESTP
Phlegmatic: INTP, ISTP, INTJ, ISTJ
Sanguine: ENFP, ESFP, ENFJ, ESFJ
No. That doesn't work at all. INTJ and ISTJ as Phlegmatic? Impossible.

Okay, okay. How about forgetting the extrovert/introvert thing and using judging/perceiving and thinking/feeling.
Melancholic: INFJ, ISFJ, ENFJ, ESFJ
Choleric: ENTJ, INTJ, ESTJ, ISTJ
Phlegmatic: INTP, ENTP, ISTP, ESTP
Sanguine: ENFP, INFP, ESFP, ISFP
Not at all. ENFJ and ESFJ can't possibly be Melancholic. INFP and ISFP can't possibly be Sanguine.

What about Intuition/Sensing? Can I use that? Maybe, But I don't see any direct correlation.

I decided at this point that the four temperaments did not correlate directly with Myers Briggs. But of course I still have to find the closest thing to correlation. What if I use I/E, F/T and P/J? That means that:
Melancholic: IxFJ
Choleric: ExTJ
Phlegmatic: IxTP
Sanguine: ExFP
Any types that do not fit directly into one of the four temperaments will be divided between two. Here is a table:

MBTI
Temperament
ENTJ
Choleric
INTJ
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic
ENTP
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Sanguine
INTP
Phlegmatic
ENFJ
Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine
INFJ
Melancholic
ENFP
Sanguine
INFP
Phlegmatic, Melancholic, Sanguine
ESTJ
Choleric
ISTJ
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic
ESFJ
Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine
ISFJ
Melancholic
ESTP
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Sanguine
ISTP
Phlegmatic
ESFP
Sanguine
ISFP
Phlegmatic, Melancholic, Sanguine

It is not perfect at all. But it was my best guess.

The Burning Sky

I just finished a book called The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas. It was written in a unique way and I found it very gripping. It seems to be set on Earth in the 1800's, but in some kind of parallel universe with magic and mythological creatures. It is the first book in the Elemental trilogy, and unfortunately for me it is the only one that c=has come out. The next book comes out in September.

While I'm on that topic, here is a list of books I'm looking forward to reading in the next year:
  • The Perilous Sea (sequel to The Burning Sky)
  • The Blood of Olympus (Book 5 in The Heroes of Olympus)
  • Silver Shadows (Book 5 in the Bloodlines series)
  • Blue Lily, Lily Blue (Book 3 in the Raven Cycle)
  • Fairest (Prequel to The Lunar Chronicles)
  • Winter (Book 4 in the Lunar Chronicles)
  • Lady Midnight (Book 1 in The Dark Artifices)
  • The Revenge of Seven (Book 5 in the Lorien Legacies)
