Re-Readable Books

I am not a re-reader. I very rarely read books more than once. However, there are some books that deserve to be re-read. This is a list of books that I have either read more than once or that I want to read again.

Harry Potter: Obviously Harry Potter si on the list. I have re-read Harry Potter, some of the books more than once.

The Book Thief: I haven't actually re-read the Book Thief, but as it's one of my favourite books of all time, I am planning on reading it again at some point.

The Raven Cycle: I have read this series twice. It's my favourite series ever and I love it to pieces.

The Hunger Games: I have not read the Hunger Games more than once. I read the books a really long time ago, and I want to read them again.

Seraphina: I have not re-read Seraphina, but I want to read it again.

Throne of Glass:I love the Throne of Glass series. I haven't re-read it, because I actually read it very recently, but I will probably read it again in a few years.

Eon: I love the Eon duology. I haven't re-read it, but I plan to at some point.

Clockwork Angel: I have not read the Infernal Devices series more than once, and I feel like it would enjoy it even more than I did the first time I read it.

Paper Towns: Paper Towns is my favourite John Green novel. I haven't read it more than once, but I plan to read it again at some point.

March 2015 Updates

Here is what I've been reading and watching in March:
  • The 100 season 2 was the best thing ever. I'm not even exaggerating. I liked season 1, but season 2 was on a whole new level. It had literally everything I want in a TV show. A cool plot? Check. Complex and interesting characters? Check. A diverse cast? Check. The show has gone in such an exciting direction. I can't wait for season 3.
  • I am watching Elementary season 3 and I want Moriarty to come back. That is all I have to say about that.
  • I am currently watching Torchwood. I'm almost done with season 2. I am enjoying it, and I can officially say that it is the weirdest thing I have ever seen.
  • I watched Insurgent. Divergent is not my favourite book series ever, but I do like it. I personally thought the first movie was just okay, and I thought the same of the second movie. There were some good things about it and some bad things. Overall, I would say that, as a movie, Insurgent is about as good as Divergent. However, as an adaptation from the book, Insurgent is much worse than Divergent.
  • I read both books in the If I Stay duology by Gayle Forman, If I Stay and Where She Went. I liked both books, but I didn't love either of them. From all the amazing reviews they were getting, I thought that I would like these books better.
  • I read Fairest by Marissa Meyer, the prequel to the Lunar Chronicles series. I really enjoyed it, though it wasn't very long, which was a bit disappointing. I really enjoyed reading from the villain's perspective. Now I'm super excited to read Winter.
  • I finished the Darkest Minds trilogy by Alexandra Bracken with the final two books Never Fade and In the Afterlight. I enjoyed both, and, overall, I thought the trilogy was great. This science fiction series has an interesting plot and memorable characters. I would definitely recommend it.
  • I read Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard because literally everyone else in the world was reading it. I don't understand why everyone loved this book so much. It wasn't that it was bad, it just wasn't as extraordinary as I'd hoped it would be. I'm a bit disappointed, but I plan to read the rest of the books in the series whenever they come out.
  • I read The Winner's Crime by Marie Rutkoski, sequel to the Winner's Curse. I enjoyed the Winner's Curse, but this book was incredible. I thought the plot and the writing were so much more interesting than in the first book. I can not wait for the final book in this trilogy to come out.
  • I read Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman, the long awaited sequel to Seraphina, and it was amazing. It's definitely my favourite book published in 2015 so far. I has literally everything I want in a book. Everything in it was amazing!!!

February 2015 Updates:

Here is what I've been reading and watching in February:
  • I have been watching The 100 season 2 and the show is just getting better and better. Unfortunately, season 2 is almost finished. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with my life if I can't watch The 100.
  • I finished watching How to Get Away with Murder season 1, and, boy, was that final episode shocking. I can't wait to see season two. Too bad I have to wait until the fall.
  • I am still watching Elementary season 3, and I will be for a while longer because there are just so many episodes. Elementary is headed in a really exciting direction and I can't wait to find out more.
  • I finished watching Broadchurch season 2. I was a little bit disappointed with the ending, but I still enjoyed it.
  • I finally finished watching Legend of Korra, and I am currently kind of obsessed. Season 4 was definitely my favourite.
  • I am currently watching Torchwood season 1. It's very... odd.
  • I read The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater. The Raven Cycle is one of my favourite series of all time, and it's by the same author, so I've wanted to read the Scorpio Races for a while. I didn't enjoy is as much as the Raven Cycle, but it was still good.
  • I read The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski, the first book in a trilogy. The second book is coming out this year. The book was okay. I liked it enough to read the sequel when it comes out.
  • I read Eona by Alison Goodman, the sequel to Eon and the last book in the duology. Wow, it was really good. I am annoyed that their are only two books in the series.
  • I read The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, and the sequel, The Crown of Embers. I enjoyed both books, and I plan on reading the final book in the trilogy soon.
  • I read The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. It was the first book I have read by Holly Black, and the first book I read published in 2015. I liked it more than I thought I would. I'm definitely going to check out Holly Black's other books.
  • I read The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, the first book in a science fiction trilogy. Why didn't I start reading this series sooner? I could not stop reading this book.
  • I read The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead, the last book in the Bloodlines series. I'm not a big fan of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines, but then again, I have read all twelve books. The Ruby Circle was okay, like all the other books in the series.

January 2015 Updates

Here is what I've been reading and watching in January:
  • I watched series 2 part 1 of the 100 TV show and I am currently watching series 2 part 2. The 100 is heartbreaking and I wish I'd never started watching this show. Unfortunately, it's too late. I'm hooked. I loved series 1 of the 100, but series 2 is even better.
  • I am currently watching Elementary series 3. Series 3 is not as good as the first two series, but I like Kitty.
  • I watched Broadchurch series 1 which was AMAZING. I am currently watching season 2. This show is really well done and it's British, so why aren't you watching it?
  • I randomly started watching Avatar: the Last Airbender. I thought I was just going to watch the first episode and see what it was, but I accidentally watched the whole first season and I couldn't just stop there. I am now watching the Legend of Korra, the sequel show to The Last Airbender. Avatar is great. I love the world and the characters. This is not the type of show I normally watch, but I don't regret watching nine episodes in one day in the slightest.
  • In the very end of December I watched The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I really enjoyed it. It's probably my favourite of the Hobbit movies. I'm also just really glad Tauriel didn't die. When The Battle of the Five Armies comes out on DVD I'm going to marathon all the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit movies.
  • I read The Infinite Sea, sequel to the 5th Wave. The Infinite Sea was even better than the first book, if that's possible. I love the writing style in this series and the characters and everything and I need the final book right now. WHY CAN'T I HAVE IT RIGHT NOW?
  • I finished reading The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. The Bane Chronicles is a book of short stories about the best character in the Mortal Instruments: Magnus Bane. This book made me really happy, and it also made me laugh a lot. I would definitely recommend it for fans of the Mortal Instruments.
  • I read the entire Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy and it was really good. I can not understand why I did not read this series earlier. I really like the writing style and the characters. I usually hate angel/demon books, but this one was good.
  • I randomly read the first book in s series that came out last year, Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch. I honestly didn't like it very much. I almost didn't finish it, but I ended up reading the whole thing. I just couldn't really get into it. The world didn't seem real, the plot didn't make a lot of sense and the characters seemed like really awkward cardboard cut-outs. I'm a little disappointed, the description of the book sounded good. I don't plan on continuing the series.
  • I read the third book in the Falling Kingdoms series: Gathering Darkness. It was pretty good. Literally everyone dies in this series. I will continue to read the series as it comes out. It's not my absolute favourite, but it's good enough to keep reading.
  • I read We Were Liars, which is a realistic fiction book. I actually read a realistic book! I mostly read it because it won a Goodreads choice award last year. I actually really enjoyed it. It's really short, so it didn't take me long to read and the ending is mindblowing. I'd definitely recommend it.
  • I read the first book in the Eon duology. It's called Eon: Dragoneye Reborn. I really enjoyed it and i want to read the sequel. The main character is awesome and this is the first book I've read the has a transgender character in it.
  • I read To all the Boys I've Loved Before which is another realistic fiction book. I wanted to try to read some more diverse books this year. I liked it, but it's realistic, so I didn't love it. I will read the sequel when it comes out.

    Different Sexual Orientations in Fiction

This post is about different sexual orientations in fiction and how the topic of sexual orientation is represented in fiction.

I'm not going to be talking about people who are transgender or people who are genderfluid or anything like that. I do believe that representation of different gender identities is as important in fiction as representation of different sexual orientations, but I'm not going to be discussing gender identity in this post because I don't feel like I have the right to talk about this topic. This is partly because I identify as the gender I was born as and also because I do not know very much about gender identity.

Anyway, it is becoming more and more common for fiction (book, movies and TV shows) to include characters who are not straight. However, most of these characters who are not straight are gay men, and, slightly less often, lesbian women. Other sexual orientations are basically not shown at all.I'm going to list several different sexual orientations (or groups of sexual orientations) and some of my opinions on how they should be represented in fiction.

Gay Characters: There are actually many gay men in current fiction, which is great, but I've noticed that they often have similar personalities. They tend to be shown as stereotypically feminine. There is nothing wrong with gay men being stereotypically feminine, the problem is when all gay men are shown with the same personality. Gay men in fiction should have all different kinds of personalities, as should characters of all different sexual orientations. Gay men are also almost always white in fiction, which is obviously problematic. We need to see more queer people of colour.

Lesbian Characters: We definitely need to see more lesbian women in fiction. Often times, women are only present in fiction to be the love interest of the main male character. How about we put women into movies or books to be the love interest of the main female character? Also, we need to see more lesbian women of colour.

Bisexual/Pansexual Characters: There are significantly fewer bisexual characters than there are homosexual characters. I think this is because a lot of people think that you're either gay or straight. You can't be both. I've seen this stereotype so much in fiction and it bothers me to no end, especially because I am bisexual.

Asexual/Graysexual/Demisexual/Aromantic Characters: Asexuality (and all related sexual orientations) is not really shown in fiction at all. While I do not like this, I realize that it can be difficult to represent characters as being asexual. Of course, a character could just come right out and say they are asexual, but sometimes this just wouldn't work. If the character doesn't say they are asexual, it's pretty much impossible to know for sure that they are. If I hear about a male character in a relationship with another male character I think "Oh, he's gay (or bisexual)." If a character shows no interest in romance and/or sex I think "Oh, maybe they are asexual. Or maybe they are just not interested in romance and sex right now." I think that there need to be more characters in fiction who are not romantically or sexually involved with anyone. They don't necessarily have to say they are asexual. They just have to be not romantically or sexually involved with anyone. Seriously, romance is not necessary for a plot to function.

FINAL NOTE ABOUT SEXUAL ORIENTATION: I am no expert in any of this stuff. I just feel really strongly that different sexual orientations should be represented in fiction, and I'll tell you why.

I am not straight and I only realized this recently. Part of the reason I never thought to question my sexual orientation was because I did not see many characters of different sexual orientations when I was younger. I did see a few queer characters in the books that I read, but they were so few and far between. I thought of queer people as somehow different, a group of people that I would never be part of. I wasn't exactly homophobic, I just didn't consider the fact that I myself might be part of the group of people who are not straight. Because of this, the lack of different sexual orientations in fiction is very personal for me. I want queer characters to be normal in fiction. I want queer people to be seen as regular people.

I am only fifteen and I have never dated anyone, nor do I plan to in the near future. I have been told that I can't know my sexual orientation at such a young age. While this statement annoys me, in my case, it is true. I am still not entirely sure what my sexual orientation is exactly. I think that I am somehow in the area between bisexual and asexual. For now I am calling myself asexual and biromantic. I don't believe I have ever been sexually attracted to anyone. I don't actually understand what this would mean. I do think that I understand romantic attraction better. I think that I have liked a few people romantically in the past (mostly girls). I have been told that I might be too young to be sexually attracted to people and that I might become less asexual over time. Maybe that is true. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Anyway, sexual orientation isn't really some clearly defined thing. Every individual person defines their own sexual orientation differently. Some people prefer not to define themselves at all. But I think that we should start seeing more fictional characters that are confident in their sexual orientation (whether that be homosexual or bisexual or asexual). I think that this might help real people understand themselves and other people.

    The 2015 Post

I can't really believe that it's 2015. Maybe time is speeding up or something. Wasn't it 2013 a few weeks ago? But, whether I believe it or not, today is actually the first day of 2015. Soon I am going to be 16 years old. 16 YEARS OLD. If I were not blind, I would be able to get my driver's license.

2014 was a pretty good year for me. I read tons of great books and discovered TV shows for the first time. I can't believe I didn't watch any TV shows before 2014. Hopefully I will discover even more awesome fictional worlds in 2015. This post is dedicated to everything that I am looking forward to in the coming year organized by month.

NOTE: This post has been update since I first posted it.

    January:
    • How to Get Away with Murder series 1 part 2: With the amazing ending of the first part of series one, I can't wait to see more episodes.
    • The 100 series 2 part 2: The 100 is a great TV show. The ending of the last episode was heart breaking and I need more episodes right now. I don't know when in 2015 they'll be coming.
    • Fairest: I am almost more excited about the prequel to the Lunar Chronicles series than I am excited about the last book in the series, Winter. Queen Levana is one of my favourite villains.
    • The Darkest Part of the Forest: I'm super excited to read Holly Black's new fantasy standalone.
    February:
    • Red Queen: This is that first book in a fantasy trilogy by a debut and it sounds promising.
    • City of Savages: This is a science fiction book by a debut author and it sounds fascinating.
    March:
    • Insurgent (movie): I enjoyed the first Divergent movie, and I hope the second one will be good as well.
    • Shadow Scale: I am eagerly awaiting the sequel to the awesome book Seraphina.
    • The Winner's Crime: The Winner's Curse, the first book in a trilogy, came out last year and it was great. I can't wait to read the sequel.
    April:
    • Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda: This is a book by a debut author. I usually don't read realistic fiction, but this book sounds adorable.
    • The Girl at Midnight: This is another book by a debut author and it sounds interesting.
    • An Ember in the Ashes: This debut is getting so much hype that I obviously have to read it.
    May:
    • PS. I Still Love You: This is the sequel to one of the only realistic fiction books I read last year, To All the Boys I've Loved Before.
    • A Court of Thorns and Roses: This is the first book in a brand new series by Sarah J. Maas. It's by Sarah J. Maas. Of course I'm going to read it.
    June:
    • Paper Towns (movie): I enjoyed The Fault in our Stars movie, and I'm excited to see Paper Towns, especially because it's my favourite John Green book.
    • The Witch Hunter: This is yet another fantasy debut book coming out this year.
    • The Book of Spirits and Thieves: This is the first book in a companion series to the Falling Kingdoms series and I can't wait to read it.
    August:
    • The Fate of Ten: The fifth book of the Lorien Legacies was better than I expected. I am awaiting the sixth and (possibly) final book in the series.
    September:
    • Queen of Shadows: The third book in the Throne of Glass series was amazing and I need the fourth book right now.
    • The Copper Gauntlet: The first book in the Magisterium series was better than I expected and had a surprising ending. I want to read the second book to find out what happens next.
    • Walk on Earth a Stranger: This is the first book in a new series by Rae Carson. I love Rae Carson, so I'm definitely going to read it.
    • The Last Star: The 5th Wave is one of my favourite series ever and I can not wait for the last book.
    October:
    • The Sword of Summer: While The Blood of Olympus wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, I'm still excited to read the first book in Rick Riordan's new series.
    • The Rose Society: The Young Elites was one of my favourite books of 2014, and after an interesting epilogue, I can't wait for the next book.
    • The Immortal Heights: The Burning Sky and The Perilous Sea were both fantastic. I can't wait to read the third book in the Elemental trilogy.
    • Six of Crows: This is the first book in a new series set in the world of the Grisha Trilogy.
    November:
    • Mockinjay Part 2: The Hunger Games movies are some of my favourite book to movie adaptations. I am really looking forward to the final movie.
    • Winter: The fourth and final book in the Lunar Chronicles series is highly anticipated by many people, including me.
    • Soundless: I'm honestly not a huge fan of the Vampire Academy series (it's not my genre), but I am going to read this because it sounds fascinating.
    December
    • Frozen Tides: I love the Falling Kingdoms series and I am excited to read the fourth book.
Things Without a Specific Date (Yet):
    • Doctor Who series 9: After an awesome Christmas special, I'm dying to see more Doctor Who. Unfortunately I'll probably have to wait a while.
CHANGES TO THIS BLOG IN 2015:

I am planning on making several changes to this blog in the coming year. First, I will be posting one post at the end of each month summarizing all the books I read and the movies and TV shows I watched in that month. I'm tired of making random "updates" posts. These new monthly updates posts will not include a few select books/movies/TV shows that I want to write individual reviews for.

Second, I will probably be posting less often (though I hope to post at least once a week). To make up for posting less often, most of my posts will probably be long.

Third, I am currently working on cleaning up this blog. When I started it, I never expected to keep going with it for this long and I also never suspected that anyone would actually read what I write. Surprisingly, this blog actually gets more than 100 views a day. I'm not sure how that happened. Anyway, I figured that if people are actually reading my blog, maybe I should try to make it interesting. Many of the things I posted when I first began this blog are either uninteresting or unrelated to the topic of this blog. Some of my old posts are honestly so embarrassing that I don't want anyone to ever see them again. I've been looking back at my old posts and deleting the worst ones. I'm also editing some of the better ones (I made so many spelling mistakes). As well as cleaning up my old posts, I'm attempting to create better and more interesting posts now.

Thank you so much to anyone who actually reads this blog. You mean a lot to me. You are also welcome to comment on my posts because I love talking to people who have similar interests.

Other Opinions on the Best YA Books of 2014

Here is a list of the 17 best young adult books of 2014. I have read four of the books on the list (Cress, Ruin and Rising, The Young Elites and Blue Lily, Lily Blue) and I want to read another four books on the list (The Infinite Sea, We Were Liars, Red Rising and Dreams of Gods and Monsters).

Here is another list of best young adult books of 2014. I have read exactly one book on the list (Blue Lily, Lily Blue) which happens to be my number 1 favourite book of 2014. To All the Boys I've Loved Before, We Were Liars and Afterworlds are on my TBR list. The others I have not heard of or are not really interesting.

Here is a third list.  I have read exactly 0 books on that list.

Here is a fourth list. I have read four books on the list (The Blood of Olympus, The Young Elites, Ruin and Rising and Blue Lily Lily Blue). There are three books on the list that I want to read (We Were Liars, Say What You Will and Snow Like Ashes).

And here is a fifth list. I haven't read any of the books on that list, but I am going to read The Infinite Sea very soon. I also want to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Dorothy Must Die, We Were Liars and Red Rising.

RANDOM UPDATES: I thought I should probably mention the books I got for Christmas. My family does a thing where my parents basically let me choose what presents I get. I like buying books that I've already read. It's kind of weird because I never really re-read them. I just stare at them and stroke them and reorganize them on my shelf. I also collect signed books. I have about 15 of those now. Anyway, here is a list of the books I got for Christmas:
    •  The 5th Wave (signed)
    • The Bane Chronicles (signed)
    • The Revenge of Seven (signed)
    • The Book Thief
    • And Then There Were None
    • Falling Kingdoms
    • Graceling
    • Paper Towns

    Diversity in Fiction: My thoughts

In this post, I'm going to consider "diverse characters" to be one or more of the following: Not white, LGBTQ or disabled. I'm also going to be mainly talking about books, and not so much other forms of fiction.

I never used to think about diversity in fiction. That has been changing recently. When I was younger, I never really noticed that the books I read had mainly straight, white, able-bodied characters. That isn't to say that I disliked books with diverse characters, I just didn't really notice either way. I think there are several reasons for this.

First, I never noticed that most of the characters in the books I read were white. I think that the main reason for this is that I did not (and still do not) pay attention to the way a character looks when I am reading a book. When I read physical descriptions of characters, I kind of ignore them. I know that many people automatically picture characters as white if they aren't told otherwise, but that's not really what I do.The thing is, I don't picture what book characters physically look like when I imagine them. I just kind of picture them as their personalities. I don't know if that makes sense. The way people look has never mattered to me. I think this is partially because I am visually disabled. When I meet someone, I do not notice their hair colour, their height or their race. The first thing I notice about a person is the first thing they do or say. This is the case for fictional characters too. I just don't really pay attention to what they look like. It doesn't matter.

However, I recognize that most people do pay attention to the physical descriptions of characters. I also recognize that it is not good that so many book characters are white. Representation of everyone is important in fiction.

I also did not notice that pretty much all of the characters I read about in books were straight. This is partially because I, like many people who do not know better, thought of "straight" as the default state for a human being and anything else as something... extra. When I realized that a character was not straight, I was often surprised. I remember that when I was younger I learned that Dumbledore was gay. This actually kind of upset me. Was this because I was homophobic back then? Partially. It also upset me that a writer would know something like that about a character and not put it obviously in the actual books.

I was kind of homophobic when I was younger. It wasn't that I hated queer people or was against gay marriage, I just didn't really think about the fact that some people are queer. I did not think of queer people in the same way I did other people. I think that many people who claim they are not homophobic actually think this way. This way of thinking actually made it difficult for me to realize that I am not straight. All my life I have just assumed that I am heterosexual. When I joined tumblr, I started to see sexual orientation and gender differently. I started to think of queer people in the same way I thought of cisgendered straight people. Today, when I think about Dumbledore, I think of him exactly the way I would if he were straight. But despite all this, a few months ago I still thought of myself as heterosexual. Only in the past few months have I begun to think more about myself and my sexual orientation.

How does this relate to fictional characters? I think that many people assume that a fictional character (or real person) is straight unless they are told otherwise, not because they are homophobic, exactly, but because they believe, like I used to, that heterosexual is the default state for human beings. This is not a good mentality. Being queer is completely natural and assuming that people are straight and cisgendered contributes to homophobia and transphobia.

Finally, disability in fiction. I am disabled, and so you would think that I would have noticed that very few of the characters in the books I read were too.But I didn't. Maybe it's because, unlike many other children who read books a lot, I did not think of book characters as reflections of myself. I don't really think of them as "friends" either. I've always been drawn to books because they are more interesting than the real world. But, the thing is, characters are in a way a reflection of ourselves and fiction is in a way a reflection of our world. The characters in the books we read might not be exactly like us, but I think that the best fictional characters can tell us something about humanity.

So, why is diversity in fiction important? Because our world is diverse, and fiction is a reflection of our world. It doesn't really matter if you view fiction as a reflection of yourself or a reflection of humanity. The point is that everyone wants to see truth in fiction, and truth is diverse. The people in our world are diverse.

Recently, I've been looking for books with diversity in them. One of my reading goals of 2015 is to read as many diverse books as I can. I also write fiction myself, and I've been trying to make my writing more diverse. If I ever publish anything, I don't want to contribute to the huge number of books with characters who are mostly straight, white and able-bodied. I look forward to a time when diversity in fiction is seen as "normal". It would be nice to be able to pick up pretty much any book and see a reflection of our world that is diverse.

Many people seem to think that diversity in fiction is not important. To them I say, almost everyone (at least in North America) is exposed to fiction of some kind, and, as I said before, fiction is a reflection of our world. When I was a child, I learned a lot about the world from reading fiction. The trouble with that is, fiction can be misleading. It's true that fiction is "fiction" and so it is not, strictly speaking, true, but I think that the point of fiction is to show the truth whether it is historical fiction or high fantasy. I want the next generation to be less sexist, less racist, less homophobic and less transphobic than people are today. Making sure that fiction is diverse will, in my opinion, help make this possible. It will at least be a step in the right direction.

    TBR

I have a problem. That problem is my TBR list. (TBR means "To be read" in case you didn't know.) The problem is that it keeps growing. Whenever anyone recommends a book or I notice a book on Goodreads that interests me, I add it to my TBR list. This caused my TBR list to become quite long. It had, at one point, over 300 books on it. I recently narrowed it down to 131. This might not seem like that much of a problem to you, and it wouldn't be, if I was a different person. But I am, in fact, not a different person. I am me.

It annoys me when things are not well-organized. Actually, "annoyed" isn't the right word. It drives me crazy when things aren't well-organized. I spend hours organizing things. My room, files on my computer, drawings I did when I was 3. Organizing things makes me happy and makes me feel less stressed. So, it annoys me that my TBR list is not organized. My current project right now is organizing it, and it's turning out to be much more difficult than I originally thought. Do I organize it by genre? In order of how interesting they sound? In alphabetical order? While I decide how to organize the list, I am adding a short description of each book based on what I read about them on goodreads. This will help me decide which books to read in a more efficient way. Here are some examples of my short descriptions:

    Matched: Love Triangle Dystopian thing
Across the Universe: Space and stuff?
Artemis Fowl: Millionaire, Genius, criminal mastermind. Also fairies.
Game of Thrones: The book my mother really does not want me to read.

I think I should probably organize the books by genre. That will make it easier to find a book I'm in the mood for.

ANYWAY, the reason I made this post was to give you some links. If you, like me, want to add some interesting books to your TBR list, you might want to check out some of these links. Here is a link to a list of science fiction books organized by theme. Here is a list of historical fiction organized by when the book takes place if you like that kind of thing. Here is a list that can tell you the 100 best ever teen novels, apparently. Here are some books to read if you liked Game of Thrones. Here are books with lesbian/bi girls as protagonists and here are books with gay/bi boys as main characters. Here are 30 books that will change your view of the world. And finally, here is a picture of a cat.

Mockingjay Part 1 Review Plus Other Updates

By the way, there aren't any major spoilers for Mockingjay Part 1 in this blog post. I don't really even need to say that because 1. No one reads this blog and 2. Even if you are reading this, you have probably either seen Mockingjay or read the book.

Anyway, I saw The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 yesterday. I can't say that I enjoyed it, but that's not the point. It was an incredible movie, maybe my favourite Hunger Games movie so far. As always, this review is going to be short because I dislike writing reviews. I will say that Jennifer Lawrence was amazing in this film, as always, and the movie made me cry. I was worried that this movie would not be as good as the first two. Mockingjay was my least favourite book in the trilogy because the middle of the book dragged on a bit. I was really worried when I heard that they were going to be splitting the last book in two. Now that I've seen Mockingjay Part 1, I'm not as worried. It actually works quite well to have it split in two. The pacing felt right to me, but I've heard that some people disagree. I actually felt that the first two movies were too short. So, anyway, I'm excited for the final film. I'm hoping they don't ruin it. I'm not too worried, though.

As for other things, I am now caught up with Elementary. I finished the second series and have watched all episodes of the third series that are out so far. I also finished watching How to Get Away with Murder. THAT ENDING, THOUGH. I still can't get over it.

As for books, I finished reading Blue Lily, Lily Blue. After finishing it, it occurred to me that the Raven Cycle is so underrated. By me. It had never really occurred to me before how much I love it. I knew that I liked it, but I didn't really realize that it's actually one of the best young adult series I have ever read. I realized that it has very few flaws, and in my opinion, no large flaws at all. I often have problems with certain books. It's usually the characters (too boring, too good, too evil) or the plot (too slow, too fast, too normal) or the writing style (too short, too long, too confusing). But there isn't anything that really annoys me about the Raven Cycle. I sincerely apologize to the Raven Cycle and to Maggie Stiefvater for under-appreciating this series. I need to read the Scorpio Races.

I also read Clariel by Garth Nix which as the prequel to the Old Kingdom series, AKA, the best epic fantasy series ever. I liked the book, up until the very end when I started to love it. I've decided that Garth Nix is good at endings. Sometimes the endings of books leave me feeling unsatisfied *cough* Blood of Olympus *cough*. But Garth Nix never does this (unless of course the book ends on a cliffhanger, like the sixth book in the Keys to the Kingdom series). The ending of Clariel and the ending of Lord Sunday are two of my favourite endings of all time. They both kind of left me sitting there in shock with my mouth open. Maybe I should do a blog post on my favourite book endings.

Shatter Me, Elementary and Other Updates

I read the first book in the Shatter Me trilogy.  It started off really well, but then I started to get bored of it. I will read the rest of the series, though.

I also read the first book in the Throne of Glass series. It was pretty good. The plot was paced well and it was interesting. The world sometimes didn't feel real, though. And most of the characters didn't have much of a personality.

I finished the Old Kingdom trilogy. It is one of my favourite epic fantasy series that I have read so far. I'm really excited to read the prequel Clariel.

I read the first book in the Falling Kingdoms series. I really enjoyed it. I love books that are told from more than two characters' perspectives. I also love that no side or person in the book is truly good or evil.

After reading The Fault in Our Stars and An Abundance of Katherines I read John Greens two other books, Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns. They were both good. Paper Towns is my favourite book by John Green.

I've started watching the TV show Elementary. At first I liked it, but now I'm starting to love it. It's interesting to see the differences between Elementary and BBC Sherlock. It's making me want to read more of the original stories.

I watched the Maze Runner movie. The book series was honestly not my favourite, but I actually did like the first book. The movie was pretty good.

I am now reading The Perilous Sea, sequel to The Burning Sky.

Shadow and Bone, John Green and Other Updates

This post is basically just about what I've been reading and watching recently.

I read Four: A Divergent Collection. I thought I might find it difficult to get into because I read the rest of the series so long ago, but I actually really enjoyed it. Tobias is a great character and I am more than ever convinced he's an ISFJ.

I also finished the Shadow and Bone series. I liked it, thought it wasn't my absolute favourite. I was really absurdly happy about a random thing that happened in the last book. I'm planning on doing a "YA Epic Fantasy" post soon, once I read a few more series.

I have been reading the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix. I read Sabriel, which I enjoyed and I have also read Lirael, which I enjoyed even more (even though the end was a bit predictable). I am going to read Abhorsen soon.

I have also read a bunch more books by Agatha Christie. I don't know when I'm going to stop reading Agatha Christie, but it won't be soon.

I read Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead. The Vampire Academy/Bloodlines books aren't really the type of book I generally read, but my friend loves them so I read them. The fifth book (or eleventh, depending on whether or not you count Vampire Academy and Bloodlines as the same series) was okay. The ending (while exciting for Sydrian fans) was a bit annoying, in my opinion. I really enjoyed the re-education stuff, though.

I am currently reading Looking for Alaska by John Green. I finished An Abundance of Katherines the other day. I enjoyed Katherines, thought it's realistic fiction and that will never be my favourite. It had math in it, which was fun. Looking for Alaska is good too. I'm going to read Paper Towns next. I put all the John Green books on hold at the library and they all came at the same time.

I am very close to finishing the TV show Merlin. I have three more episodes left. I will post a lot of Merlin stuff once I finish.

More Agatha Christie (And Other Stuff)

I have been reading more books by Agatha Christie. (The ABC Murders and Death on the Nile.) They are quite addicting. Once I've read a bunch I'll make a post about my favourites and stuff.

Other random news: I am almost finished with season 4 of Merlin. Yay! It's a great show.

Also, I'm going to be starting school again soon. This means that I'm not going to be posting as much. Instead of posting once every two days, I'll probably be posting once a week. Maybe a bit more.

      And Then There Were None

I finally read a book I've been wanting to read for a long time. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I SHOULD HAVE READ THIS AGES AGO. I am totally obsessed with this book right now. It has pretty much everything a mystery book should have. It made me realize that mystery is actually my second favourite genre. I am panning to read many more books by Agatha Christie.

Just read And Then There Were None. You will never solve the mystery. In fact, you'll probably be completely confused till the very last few pages. But that is why you should read it.

This has been my review of And Then There Were None. As I've said many times, I'm terrible at writing reviews. But seriously, just read the book, okay?

      Merlin

I have recently started watching a new TV show called Merlin. I'm almost finished with the second season. It's about Merlin (obviously) and Arthur Pendragon and all the characters are really awesome and I'm kind of obsessed. I have been watching at least one episode every day.

Here is my current list of fandoms:
      • The Lord of the Rings
      • Harry Potter
      • Percy Jackson
      • Sherlock
      • The Mortal Instruments
      • The Hunger Games
      • Divergent
      • Merlin

      • Ender's Game (not sure this has a fandom)
      • The Fault in Our Stars
      • The Perks of Being a Wallflower (this is a fandom, right?)
      • Vampire Academy
And here are some books I'm obsessed with that don't have fandoms:
      • Keys to the Kingdom
      • The Raven Cycle
      • The Lunar Chronicles
      • Legend
      • The Book Thief

      Astrology and Stuff

This post is just me rambling about random stuff. Please ignore me.

Okay, so, I've never understood astrology. I looked into it a few years ago and it just sounds really stupid. How can anyone possibly think that the stars have any effect on people's personalities? It doesn't make any sense. I was talking to this guy a few days ago who liked astrology. He thought I would too, since I am slightly interested in the Enneagram. But I think it's the stupidest thing ever. Even if you ignore the whole stars and planets thing, the type descrpitons are just really random. You might find a type that describes you most, but what's the point? I won't say anything about you that you don't already know. It has no base. It's random. You might think your sign describes you well. Obviously, this will be true for some people. It's impossible that nobody would identify with their astrological sign. But their are many people whose signs don't describe them at all. Also, I have noticed that people tend to see themselves in a type description if they want to, and they don't see themselves in a description if they don't want to. For instance, a person I know has always thought of herself as an Enneagram type 5. We read the description and she thought it sounded a lot like her. I didn't think it did. I thought she was a type 9. So I read her type 9, but she didn't think it described her very well. The thing is, I think she saw herself in the type 5 description because she wanted to be a type 5. Perhaps it's the same with astrology.

I'm a Taurus. A bull. Lovely. According to a random site on the internet, Taurus people are dependable, persistent, loyal, patient, generous, stubborn, lazy, possessive, materialistic and self-indulging. Here is a list of these traits with notes about how much they describe me:
      • Dependable: I think this describes me.
      • Persistent: Definitely. I don't give up.
      • Loyal: Ha ha, no.
      • Patent: Depends. Do I get ice cream?
      • Generous: Nooooo.
      • Stubborn: Yesssssss.
      • Lazy: Kind of.
      • Possessive: Not at all.
      • Materialistic: I am the exact opposite of this.
      • Self-indulging: Not really.
That's 4/10 traits that fit me (counting the traits that kind of fit me as 1/2)
So, as you can see, some things describe me and some things don't. Let me take a description of a random astrology sign. How about Libra.
      • Analytical: Totally.
      • Observant: Kind of.
      • Helpful:  Definitely not.
      • Reliable: Mostly.
      • Precise: Depends.
      • Skeptical: A bit.
      • Fussy: Maybe.
      • Inflexible: Yes.
      • Cold: Sometimes.
      • Interfering: Not really?
      5 and 1/2
So, Libra describes me a bit better than Taurus does. Here, I'll do another random type. Leo.
      • Confident: I act like it but not really.
      • Ambitious: Sometimes.
      • Generous: Nope.
      • Loyal: I'm kind of like a Slytherin in this way.
      • Encouraging: Not unless I have to be.
      • Pretentious: Not really.
      • Domineering: Well, okay, yes.
      • Melodramatic: Not unless I'm angry, which really isn't often.

Again, some things describe me, some things don't. Taurus describes me no more than any of the others. This is why I don't think Astrology is accurate.

Someone said to me "Well, astrology a lot more complicated than that." Sure, whatever, all I know is that it's based on stars, which I think is stupid. And, also, some people seem to think that if you make something more complicated, that somehow makes it more accurate. I have this problem with Myers Briggs, too. In all the experience I have had (which, I admit, is not very much), I have found that complicated things are not better than simple things but it is in fact the other way around. I think Einstein said it well. "If you can't explain it simply, you do not understand it well enough." I apply this principle to everything, science, math, people. Especially people.

If you like astrology, good for you. I just hope you don't think it's the answer to the universe. I also hope you don't think Enneagram is the answer to the universe, or even Myers Briggs. Every personality typing system is inaccurate. That is the beauty of people, they are too complicated to truly explain. Some people would say "so don't try", but I like to imagine that I understand things, though I never forget that I really don't. I like creating order in the universe. It's fun to look at something random and messy (like a human mind), and pretend that it is something infinitely simple. But it still isn't the truth. And so when I tell you that I am an INTJ, what I mean is not that those four letters completely and accurately describe every bit of my personality, what I mean is that those letters are a way I have found of looking at myself. It is not reality, it is a pair of glasses. I am looking at myself through the lens of Myers Briggs.

So, technically I have just argued against my own point (I do that a lot). I have pretty much said that astrology is just as good as Myers Briggs. Both are equally valid ways of looking at people (ignoring the bit about stars, again). It's just that I personally do not like astrology.

And I think  have successfully made my way back to the beginning of this post and probably also successfully confused you. Like I said, ignore me.
