Ten Favourite Fictional Friendships
Everyone talks about romantic relationships in fiction, but in my opinion, platonic relationships are just as important. Here are ten of my favourite fictional friendships in no particular order. Some of these friendships consist of more than two people. In the group friendships on this list there may be people within the group who like each other romantically.
1. Clarke and Raven from The 100
"I'd pick you first." "Of course you would. I'm awesome."
Clarke Griffin and Raven Reyes are from the TV show The 100. In the beginning, Clarke and Raven's relationship was a bit of a rivalry since Finn, Raven's boy friend, was interested in Clarke, but the two girls soon got over their differences. Now, Raven is one of the only people Clarke can trust, and Clarke is one of the only people Raven can count on.
2. Clara and The Doctor from Doctor Who
"Run. Run you clever boy, and remember me."
In Doctor Who, Clara Oswald is the Doctor's newest companion, but she doesn't think of herself as the Doctor's assistant, she thinks of herself as his equal. Clara and the Doctor go on adventures together, and while their relationship has been rough at times, the two always stick together.
3. Blue, Gansey, Ronan and Adam from The Raven Cycle
"But what she didn't realize about Blue and her boys was that they were all in love with one another. She was no less obsessed with them than they were with her, or one another, analyzing every conversation and gesture, drawing out every joke into a longer and longer running gag, spending each moment either with one another or thinking about when next they would be with one another. Blue was perfectly aware that it was possible to have a friendship that wasn't all-encompassing, that wasn't blinding, deafening, maddening, quickening. It was just that now that she'd had this kind, she didn't want the other.”
Blue Sargent, Richard Gansey, Ronan Lynch and Adam Parrish from The Raven Cycle book series have one of the strangest and most interesting friendships I have ever read about. The four each have a very unique relationship with each other person in the group. They often argue, but at the end of the day, they are the only people in the world who really understand each other.
4. Korra, Mako, Bolin and Asami from Legend of Korra
"The new team avatar."
In the TV show Legend of Korra, Korra and her friends Mako, Bolin and Asami work together to save the world on countless occasions. These four would do anything for each other. The group is sometimes pulled apart by political conflicts or love triangles, but they always find their way back to each other.
5. Joan and Sherlock from Elementary
"I consider you to be exceptional, so I make an exceptional effort to accommodate you."
The thing that I love about the TV show Elementary is the relationship between the two main characters, Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson. Joan starts out as Sherlock's sober companion, but she later joins him in detective work. At first the two don't get along, but they soon find that they have more in common than they thought, and that the differences that they do have are what make their friendship strong.
6. Clarke and Anya from The 100
"There is no 'we'."
Clarke Griffin and Anya from the TV show The 100 start their relationship as enemies. Over the course of their interactions, they eventually become allies and they form a bond of mutual respect.
7. Harry, Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter
"Why is it, when something happens, it is always you three?"
Obviously the golden trio has to be somewhere on this list. Harry, Ron and Hermione are really the ultimate friends. I don't think I need to go on about them. You all now how epic they are.
8. Tessa, Will and Jem from The Infernal Devices
“They say you cannot love two people equally at once,” she said. “And perhaps for others that is so. But you and Will—you are not like two ordinary people, two people who might have been jealous of each other, or who would have imagined my love for one of them diminished by my love of the other. You merged your souls when you were both children. I could not have loved Will so much if I had not loved you as well. And I could not love you as I do if I had not loved Will as I did.”
Yes. I know this is a love triangle. But if that's all you saw in their relationship, I think you are very wrong. The point of their relationship is that they are all equally in love with each other. They all care so much for one another and they would do anything to protect each other.
9. Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko and Suki from The Last Airbender
"Team Avatar is back. Air. Water. Earth. Fire. Fan and sword!"
Team Avatar from Avatar:The Last Airbender is probably my favourite group of friends ever. It's true that they argue a lot, and one of their members was originally their enemy, but they really are the best of friends. They worked together to save the world and make it better, and then they worked together to keep it that way.
10. Donna and the Doctor from Doctor Who
"I was going to be with you forever."
Donna Noble is the only main companion in new Doctor Who who is never remotely interested in The Doctor romantically. Instead, the two are the very best of friends, and the travel through space and time together.
1. Clarke and Raven from The 100
"I'd pick you first." "Of course you would. I'm awesome."

My Ten Favourite "Diverse" Characters
It is my opinion that diversity in fiction is important. Here is a list (in no particular order) of ten of my favourite "diverse characters" from books, movies and TV shows. (I consider a character diverse if they are one or more of the following: a person of colour, LGBTQ or disabled.) Most of the characters on the list are girls. Sorry, I just tend to like female characters better than male characters. I am also sorry that there aren't any transgender characters on the list. There are, unfortunately, very few transgender characters in today's media.
2. Lexa is another character from The 100. She is a military leader and she happens to like girls.
3. Raven Reyes is yet another character from The 100. She's a genius and a mechanic, and she is also a disabled women of colour.
4. Monty Green is another character from The 100. He is literally and angel and he is a person of colour.
5. Joan Watson is one of the two main character in Elementary. She was a doctor who became a sober companion, and then eventually became a detective. She is also a women of colour.
6. Guinevere is one of the main characters in the TV show Merlin, and she is a person of colour. Gwen becomes the queen of Camelot.
7. Korra is the main character of the TV show Legend of Korra. Korra is a bisexual women of colour.
8. Toph Beifong is from Avatar: The Last Airbender. She is blind, but she uses her power over the element of Earth to "see".
9. Martha Jones is a character from the TV show Doctor Who. She is a Doctor and she saves the world multiple times. She is a woman of colour.
10. Magnus Bane is from The Mortal Instruments book series. He is a bisexual person of colour.
2. Lexa is another character from The 100. She is a military leader and she happens to like girls.
3. Raven Reyes is yet another character from The 100. She's a genius and a mechanic, and she is also a disabled women of colour.

Doctor Who Christmas Special: Last Christmas
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
To be honest, series 8 was kind of a bit disappointing for me. It wasn't that I didn't like series 8, it's just that I expected it to be amazing and it was just good. There were some things that were great about it (the main thing being a female master), but other things just didn't live up to their potential. Because of my slight disappointment about series 8, and because I'm generally not a big fan of Christmas specials, I did not expect much from Last Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised.
Honestly, my favourite episodes are the ones that make you think. After watching some Doctor Who episodes, I just can't stop thinking about them. Sometimes I can't stop thinking about them because the story idea was so weird and complicated that it takes a while to fully understand the plot. Sometimes I can't stop thinking about an episode because of what it says about human nature. Sometimes I can't stop thinking about an episode because it's just FREAKING AWESOME. There have been several of these kinds of episodes in Doctor Who. I'll give a few examples: Dalek, The Impossible Planet/ The Satan Pit, Utopia/ The Sound of Drums/ Last of the Time Lords, Midnight, The End of Time, Amy's Choice, Vincent and the Doctor, The Girl Who Waited, The God Complex, Asylum of the Daleks and Listen. Okay, that was a bit more than a few examples. Anyway, Last Christmas, for me, fits into this category of episodes that I can't stop thinking about after I finish them.
Why was Last Christmas so interesting? First of all, the story idea was one of my favourites in Doctor Who so far. I did notice that the idea itself was quite similar to the episode Amy's Choice (which I also loved), but the messages behind these two episodes are very different. I honestly don't care that the idea of not knowing whether or not you're dreaming was reused. It's a great idea, and the two episodes approached it very differently. Amy's Choice was more about Amy and her deciding whether she loved Rory or the Doctor. Last Christmas was more about dreams and reality. It's true that it was a little bit about Clara and Danny too, but I think that she was less important to the message of the episode than Amy was in Amy's Choice.
Last Christmas was also an interesting episode because it was deliberately designed to confuse the viewer and to put the viewer in the same position as the characters. I really love this.
As for the characters in the episode, Clara and the Doctor were both awesome. It was great to see Danny again, even if it was only Clara subconsciously talking to herself through Danny. (Or maybe it was the Doctor talking to Clara through Danny? See, this is an example of how I can not stop thinking about this episode.)
I am also really happy that Jenna Coleman will be staying for season 9. Clara is my favourite companion and I want her to stay a while longer because she's awesome. I would like there to be a new companion as well, though. Preferably female. More about my new companion preferences in a bit.
A while ago I made a list of 10 things I wanted to happen in series 8. Three of the things on the list came true and three kind of came true. The other four (new time lords, War Doctor, River Song and more gay/lesbian relationships) have sadly not come to pass in series 8 or in the Christmas special, but I'm still holding out hope for series 9. Here is a list of ten things I want in series 9 (including some of the things I put on the series 8 list). I have a feeling that very few of these are going to come true, sadly. But I can always hope.

- A new companion. I mean, in addition to Clara, not as a replacement for Clara. Also, can she not be straight and white for once?
- More gay/lesbian relationships. And can the Doctor be obviously bisexual instead of very vaguely bisexual?
- More Vastra, Jenny and Strax. Or you could just give them their own TV show. That would be nice too.
- More Missy. I mean, she's not dead obviously. BRING HER BACK.
- New Time Lord Characters. I'm mean Time Lords that are not The Doctor or The Master.
- River Song.
- The War Doctor.
- Jack Harkness.
- An actual scary episode.
- A main character who is disabled.

Doctor Who Series 8: Death in Heaven
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
I did really enjoy this episode, but I was honestly a little bit disappointed. It just wasn't as good as some other Doctor Who finales. Maybe I thought it would be like my two favourite episodes of all time (Utopia/ The Sound of Drums/ Last of the Time Lords and The End of Time) which both had the Master. It was quite as good as those two episodes.
But, seriously, Michelle Gomez is awesome. She's totally not the reason I didn't like this finale as much as some of the others. I may even like her more than John Simm. In Doctor Who extra Steven Moffat basically said that Missy isn't dead and we should expect her to come back which is really exciting and I can't wait.
The main reason I didn't like the episode as much as some others was that the timing seemed a bit off. This seemed to be a big problem in the whole series.
I am really sad that Danny is gone for good. I really loved him. This episode did make me cry, and not many have actually done that, so there's that.
As for Clara, I believe she is going to be in the Christmas special. That may, however, be her last episode, which would make me really sad since she is my favourite companion. Some people have been saying that they want the next companion to be male, but I don't. I always like shows better when there are main characters of multiple genders. I just hope the next companion is awesome.
The Doctor was great in this episode. I love how he answered "Am I a good man?" I wonder what his catchphrase is. At this time it seems like it could be "Shut up." One question: Has Doctor Who been hinting that there will be a female Doctor after Peter Capaldi regenerates? It really seems like it. We got a female Master, and Clara keeps impersonating the Doctor (I really love her impersonation in this episode, by the way). I would be both really excited and really worried if there was a female Doctor. I would be excited, because it could be really awesome. But I would also be worried. While I love Missy, her version of the Master flirts with the Doctor much more than John Simm's version did. I'm worried that a female Doctor would be done in such a way that people think of her as a female version of the Doctor instead of just one regeneration of the Doctor. I'm worried that if the Doctor became female she would start falling in love with men. I do believe that the Doctor is bisexual, but he has fallen for women in the past way more than for men. If he became a woman, I have this sinking suspicion that she would suddenly fall in love with a male companion.
Anyway, here is my updated list of favourite episodes in series 8:

Doctor Who Series 8: Dark Water
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk. Really. You do not want to get spoiled for this episode.
Wow! This episode was amazing. I can not wait a week for the second part. I was really, really hoping that Missy would be the Master but I thought I wouldn't get lucky. I did!!! I'm so excited about that. I unfortunately saw a spoiler about itbefore I watched the episode. I always see spoilers.
The idea for the episode is really odd and it actually legitimately scared me. By "the idea" I mean the thing about what happens after a person dies. I wonder what Missy is trying to accomplish with the cybermen.
I was really surprised about Danny dying randomly in the beginning of the episode like that. I guess it was supposed to be surprising. I wonder if he's going to come back.
Then there was Clara and the Doctor. Most people are annoyed at Clara right now, and I am honestly a bit annoyed at her too. I wonder if there was something more going on in the volcano scene, though. The reason I say that is because of one line from the next time trailer: "I'm not Clara Oswald. Clara Oswald has never existed." I have no idea what that means. And then of course there is what Missy said at the end of In the Forest of the Night. "Clara. My Clara. I have chosen well." We had the big Missy/Master reveal in this episode, but there is something else coming. Something that has to do with Clara.
My theories on Clara? I have no idea. Seriously, I have no clue. Is she some kind of robot? A human version of the Master? I have no idea. Somehow, Missy chose Clara. Why and for what I have no idea. I guess we'll just have to wait a week.
The next episode is Death in Heaven. What is going on with Clara? What is going on with Danny? What is going on with Missy? What is going on???

Doctor Who Series 8: In the Forest of the Night
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
I really enjoyed this episode. I always love Doctor Who episodes with children. Maebh was awesome. I wonder if the episode was separate from the finale or if it has something to do with it.A lot of things in this episode weren't really explained.
I really like Danny. He's a great person. I hope nothing bad happens to him. Please don't let anything bad happen to him.

Doctor Who Series 8: Flatline
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
This episode was great, mostly because of Clara. I think she made an amazing Doctor, even if she didn't make a good one. It was kind of a taste of what it would be like to have a female Doctor. I think she was incredible. Her idea was as weird and creative as anything the Doctor could come up with. I wonder how Danny is going to react if he finds out she's still traveling with the Doctor.
The idea for the episode is one of my favourites so far. I just love the idea of two-dimensional creatures coming into our three-dimensional universe.
And then there's Missy. Who is she? What connection does she have to Clara? That looked very much like and evil smile. I think we can guess by now that Missy is going to be a villain.

Doctor Who Series 8: Mummy on the Orient Express
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
This episode was pretty good. It wasn't my favourite, but it was fun. I'm really happy that Clara and the Doctor made up. I do wonder how Clara will eventually leave, though. Will she die? I hope not.
The Doctor seemed really dark in this episode, and I liked that. I think Peter Capaldi is really great as the Doctor. He might be my second favourite after David Tennant, but I'll wait to say for sure till the end of series 8.
I need to read Murder on the Orient Express. I want to know if there are any similarities to the episode. I have the feeling that the killer in the book is not an alien mummy soldier thing.

Doctor Who Series 8: Kill the Moon
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
I have mixed feelings about this episode. I liked it quite a bit, but it confused me and made me feel unhappy. I really liked Courtney in this episode. She's great. And I liked the other woman too. I forget her name.
I also really liked Clara. I have a feeling that people will start hating her because of this episode, and that really annoys me. The Doctor pushed her too far. Danny foreshadowed it in the last episode. I'm not even sure it was the whole "leaving the humans to make their own decision" thing that made her snap. I think that it was a long series of events that lead up to her lashing out at the Doctor. No matter what she said before, I think that she believes he's changed. Deep in her heart she doesn't believe that the twelfth doctor is the same person as the eleventh doctor. And then there was the whole thing with Danny. This last thing was just too much. She felt like the Doctor had betrayed her and patronized her.
That said, I understand the Doctor's point of view as well. I think that sometimes he doesn't realize that his companions aren't perfect. He said that he trusted Clara to make the right decision, and he was right to. But a person can only be pushed so far.
So, overall, great episode. A few things didn't make much sense, but whatever. Here is my updated list of series 8 episodes in preference order:

Doctor Who Series 8: The Caretaker
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
I really enjoyed this episode. It was funny and interesting and it helped develop all of the main characters/ I'm really happy to see more of Danny Pink. I wonder if he and the Doctor are going to become friends and if he is going to become a companion. I'm trying to figure out his Myers Briggs type. It was also fun to get a look around Coal Hill school. And there's a really cool new monster in the Doctor Who universe!
There was another Missy reference, finally. We got some more information. I'm not even going to try to make any theories about her. We'll have to wait till the last episode to figure everything out.
Clara was a really important part of this episode. She is already my favourite companion but I'm liking her more and more as each episode goes by. I wonder if the plot arc is going to have something to do with her. Maybe the plot arc will have something to do with Danny.
I like Courtney Woods. She reminds me of young Melody Pond. I hope she makes another appearance.
List of series 8 episodes so far in my preference order:

Doctor Who Series 8: Time Heist
SPOILERS!!!!! Read at your own risk.
I was disappointed in this episode.I think the idea was a good one, but it was just too short. This episode joins the list of episodes that would have been 20 times better if they were double episodes. Everything just happened too quickly. The characters were all underdeveloped. This is, sadly, my least favourite episode of series 8.
I was so excited about the new villain, but she was barely in the episode for five minutes. The Teller was such a good idea, but, again, the episode wasn't long enough to tell us very much about it. I think I would have really liked Saibra if she had had more than two lines.
I honestly don't really have anything more to say about it. So I'm going to make a list of all the Doctor who episodes that should have been double episodes: NOTE: This list does not include episodes that I wish were longer because they were so awesome and I want more of them.
I'm hoping that I will like the next episode more, and I think I will. It's called The Caretaker. The Doctor becomes the caretaker at Coalhill school. I'm excited to see more of Danny.

I honestly don't really have anything more to say about it. So I'm going to make a list of all the Doctor who episodes that should have been double episodes: NOTE: This list does not include episodes that I wish were longer because they were so awesome and I want more of them.
- A Good Man Goes to War
- Let's Kill Hitler
- The Wedding of River Song
- The Angels Take Manhattan
- Nightmare in Silver
- The Name of the Doctor
- Time Heist
I'm hoping that I will like the next episode more, and I think I will. It's called The Caretaker. The Doctor becomes the caretaker at Coalhill school. I'm excited to see more of Danny.
