Book Alphabet

I had a totally random idea to choose one book that I have read for each letter of the alphabet. I had a slight problem with J, O and Z, but I think I worked it out. (Random Note; Who would have thought that there are so few books with titles starting with the letter J?)

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
The Burning Sky by Sherry Thomas
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Fire by Kristin Cashore
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore
John Green (I couldn’t find any books beginning with J, and anyway, you can't just choose 1 John Green book.)
The Kill Order by James Dashner
Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
The Name of This Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch
The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix (This is technically cheating)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Quidditch Through the Ages by J. K. Rowling (this definitely counts)
Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan
Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
Xenocide by Orson Scott Card
The Young Elites by Marie Lu
Markus Zusak (Author of the Book Thief and I am the Messenger. I have apparently never read a book beginning with the letter Z.)

Also, if you like young adult books, you should check out this. Epic reads made a book recommendation infographic called 365 days of YA. If you want to find young adult book recommendations, this should be helpful.

Other Opinions on the Best YA Books of 2014

Here is a list of the 17 best young adult books of 2014. I have read four of the books on the list (Cress, Ruin and Rising, The Young Elites and Blue Lily, Lily Blue) and I want to read another four books on the list (The Infinite Sea, We Were Liars, Red Rising and Dreams of Gods and Monsters).

Here is another list of best young adult books of 2014. I have read exactly one book on the list (Blue Lily, Lily Blue) which happens to be my number 1 favourite book of 2014. To All the Boys I've Loved Before, We Were Liars and Afterworlds are on my TBR list. The others I have not heard of or are not really interesting.

Here is a third list.  I have read exactly 0 books on that list.

Here is a fourth list. I have read four books on the list (The Blood of Olympus, The Young Elites, Ruin and Rising and Blue Lily Lily Blue). There are three books on the list that I want to read (We Were Liars, Say What You Will and Snow Like Ashes).

And here is a fifth list. I haven't read any of the books on that list, but I am going to read The Infinite Sea very soon. I also want to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Dorothy Must Die, We Were Liars and Red Rising.

RANDOM UPDATES: I thought I should probably mention the books I got for Christmas. My family does a thing where my parents basically let me choose what presents I get. I like buying books that I've already read. It's kind of weird because I never really re-read them. I just stare at them and stroke them and reorganize them on my shelf. I also collect signed books. I have about 15 of those now. Anyway, here is a list of the books I got for Christmas:
  •  The 5th Wave (signed)
  • The Bane Chronicles (signed)
  • The Revenge of Seven (signed)
  • The Book Thief
  • And Then There Were None
  • Falling Kingdoms
  • Graceling
  • Paper Towns

Updates: The 100 and the 5th Wave

I am currently watching a TV show called The 100 which is based on a book that I have not read. I am enjoying the TV show. My favourite characters are Clarke and Raven. I am also watching Elementary series 3.

I recently read The 5th Wave. I really enjoyed it. The writing style was awesome and the plot was interesting and I really want to read the second book in the series now. I have a new favourite author to add to my list.

I also read Ignite Me, the third and final book in the Shatter Me trilogy. It was okay. That series is just not my favourite.

I also read the third book in another series: Heir of Fire. Heir of Fire is not the last in the Throne of Glass series (fortunately) but it is the last book that has come out so far (unfortunately). Heir of Fire is definitely my favourite book in the series so far. The books in that series have been progressively getting better. Heir of Fire was pretty amazing. I never got bored once and the characters and plot are so much more interesting and complex than they were in the first book. Why isn't the fourth book out NOW?

In the near future I am planning on reading The Infinite Sea (sequel to the 5th Wave), The Bane Chronicles (Which has finally arrived at the library), the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, the Girl of Fire and Thorns series and Snow Like Ashes. Also Gathering Darkness (third book in the Falling Kingdoms series) which I hope will arrive at the library soon.

Oh, and one other thing. If you are reading this, I would like to ask you a very important question. Have you read the Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater? No? Well here are six reasons why you should.

My Opinions: Books of 2014

The winners of the Epic Reads book awards were announced. Here are my opinions of the winners:

I am quite annoyed that The One won best book and Kiera Cass won best author. The Selection series is, in my opinion, not that great. I voted for City of Heavenly Fire for best book, but I would have been happy if Cress or even Ignite Me won. I voted for Cassandra Clare as best author. Again, though, I would have been happy if Veronica Roth or Sarah J. Maas won. But not Kiera Cass. Ugh.

I'm not surprised that Mockingjay won best adaption. That was kind of obvious.

I am so, so very annoyed that America and Maxon won best ship. SERIOUSLY??? Does anyone actually read that series and love it? I don't understand. I mean, it wasn't the most terrible thing ever, but I really do not understand why the Selection series is so popular. I was really hoping Magnus and Alec would win.

One thing I am happy about is the best fantasy award. I voted for the Young Elites, but I love Heir of Fire too, so I'm happy that they tied.

It makes sense that The Mortal Instruments won best series end. Not surprised.

I'm slightly annoyed that Warner won best villain. I was hoping Levana would win (though I also love the Darkling). I haven't read Dorothy Must Die, but I want to.

I'm also slightly annoyed that Tobias won best main character. I was voting for Celaena (and before that, Adelina). I'm just glad America didn't win.

So, anyway, I've decided to tell the internet my opinions on the books that I've read that came out this year. Here is a complete list of the books I read.

TBR

I have a problem. That problem is my TBR list. (TBR means "To be read" in case you didn't know.) The problem is that it keeps growing. Whenever anyone recommends a book or I notice a book on Goodreads that interests me, I add it to my TBR list. This caused my TBR list to become quite long. It had, at one point, over 300 books on it. I recently narrowed it down to 131. This might not seem like that much of a problem to you, and it wouldn't be, if I was a different person. But I am, in fact, not a different person. I am me.

It annoys me when things are not well-organized. Actually, "annoyed" isn't the right word. It drives me crazy when things aren't well-organized. I spend hours organizing things. My room, files on my computer, drawings I did when I was 3. Organizing things makes me happy and makes me feel less stressed. So, it annoys me that my TBR list is not organized. My current project right now is organizing it, and it's turning out to be much more difficult than I originally thought. Do I organize it by genre? In order of how interesting they sound? In alphabetical order? While I decide how to organize the list, I am adding a short description of each book based on what I read about them on goodreads. This will help me decide which books to read in a more efficient way. Here are some examples of my short descriptions:

Matched: Love Triangle Dystopian thing
Across the Universe: Space and stuff?
Artemis Fowl: Millionaire, Genius, criminal mastermind. Also fairies.
Game of Thrones: The book my mother really does not want me to read.

I think I should probably organize the books by genre. That will make it easier to find a book I'm in the mood for.

ANYWAY, the reason I made this post was to give you some links. If you, like me, want to add some interesting books to your TBR list, you might want to check out some of these links. Here is a link to a list of science fiction books organized by theme. Here is a list of historical fiction organized by when the book takes place if you like that kind of thing. Here is a list that can tell you the 100 best ever teen novels, apparently. Here are some books to read if you liked Game of Thrones. Here are books with lesbian/bi girls as protagonists and here are books with gay/bi boys as main characters. Here are 30 books that will change your view of the world. And finally, here is a picture of a cat.

Book Awards and Updates

Both the Goodreads and Epic Reads annual book awards are happening right now. I voted for The Young Elites in the Science Fiction and Fantasy category and The Iron Trial in the Children's category on Goodreads. I haven't read any contemporary fiction published this year so I can't vote in that category. What can I say? I've been a fantasy mood. For the past six months. I nominated several books in the Epic Reads Book Shimmy Awards including:
  • Clariel (which I haven't read yet, but I know it's going to be awesome)
  • Blue Lily, Lily Blue (Which I am currently reading)
  • The Young Elites
  • City of Heavenly Fire
  • Ruin and Rising
  • Cress
Anyway, I am probably going to do my own book awards for no reason other than that I like talking to myself.

In other news, I have been watching Elementary and How to Get Away with Murder which are both awesome. I want to watch Orphan Black and Teen Wolf.

I finished reading The Young Elites which I really enjoyed. It is my favourite book that I have read so far published in 2014, but Clariel might top it. I read Crown of Midnight (the second book in the Throne of Glass series) and Unravel me (the second book in the Shatter Me series). Both sequels were much better than the first books in the series'. I am currently reading Blue Lily, Lily Blue, the third book in the Raven Cycle.

Blood of Olympus Predictions #3

This is my third Blood of Olympus predictions post. You can find my first two here and here. The book coming out soon! I'm so excited. In this post I'm basically going to lay down my final theories. Who I think is going to die, what the prophecy means and what I think is going to happen. Then, after the book comes out, I'll see how many of my predictions turn out to be true.I also have links to the nine YouTube videos that include clues about the Blood of Olympus, and I'll share my thoughts on those.

Clues:

Clue #1 HAZEL: "Hazel stuck the point of her Spatha under Nike's chin. 'Explain.' Her voice was harder than Leo had ever heard. 'Which of us will die? How do we stop it?' 'Ah, child of Pluto, your magic will help you cheat in this contest but you can't cheat destiny. One of you will die. One of you must die.'"
Clue #2 JASON: "Jason knew he shouldn't look, but he couldn't close his eyes as Juno went supernova revealing her true godly form. Pain seared Jason's mind, his body burned away in layers like an onion."
Clue #3 LEO: "It was a long shot. If he failed it would crush him, not just emotionally. It would physically crush him."
Clue #4 PERCY: "Jason had never met this particular giant, but he'd heard stories. Polybotes. The giant shook his dreadlocks and a dozen serpents swam free, each one was green with a frilled crown around its head. 'Basilisks.' 'Indeed, son of Rome,' the giant said, 'But if you'll excuse me, my immediate business is with Perseus Jackson. I tracked him all the way across Tartarus. Now, here in his father's ruins I mean to crush him once and for all.'"
Clue #5 PIPER: "Aphrodite's words came back to Piper. 'You must bridge the gap between Roman and Greek, my child. Neither storm nor fire can succeed without you.' Aphrodite had warned her of what was to come, told her what Piper would have to do to stop Gaea. Whether or not she would have the courage, Piper didn't know."
Clue #6 REYNA: "She couldn't tell her friends how much she feared ghosts or why she feared them The whole reason she and her sister had run from San Juan all those years ago, that secret had to stay buried.
Clue #7 NICO: “The god Favonius had warned him in Croatia, ‘If you let your anger rule you, your fate will be even sadder than mine.’ But how could his fate be anything but sad? Even if he lived through this quest, he would have to leave both camps forever."
Clue #8 FRANK: "Frank ran out of arrows. He changed into rhinoceros and charged into battle, but as fast as he could knock down the giants they got up again. Their wounds seemed to be healing faster."
Clue #9 ANNABETH: "'That's my point,' Percy said, 'We don't know what's down there. I'm going with you.' 'No,' Annabeth put her hand on his arm. 'The giants want our blood. The last thing we need is a boy and a girl going down there together. Remember, they want one of each for the big sacrifice.'"

The Prophecy:

Seven Half-blood shall answer the call
We know what this means.

To storm or fire the world must fall
This is my favourite line in the prophecy. The two leading theories about it are that "storm" and "fire" refer to specific demigods or to the Greek and Roman camps. I don't think that this line refers to people. I can't really explain why I think that, I just do. If it were to refer to people, though, I like the idea of Frank being fire instead of Leo.
I like the camps theory better. I think it is probably true. The reason I say this is because it fits directly with what that random God told Jason (I can't remember his name and I'm too lazy to look it up).
Other possible theories: Storm and Fire refer to Gods?
The other part of this line is "the world must fall". What does "the world" mean? I think it means Gaea. That makes most sense. Whatever storm and fire are, one of them will probably be the thing that defeats Gaea in the end. The fact that the prophecy feels the need to mention both storm and fire makes me think that both will try to defeat Gaea and only one will succeed. If storm and fire means Roman and Greek, then perhaps this means that one of the camps will defeat Gaea. Which doesn't really makes sense, but whatever.
Could "fall" have a different meaning than we think? I doubt it. The prophecy says the world must fall. If that means Gaea, that's good news. If not... what could it possibly mean? The prophecies have always come true in the past, but is it possible that the seven demigods might be able to change fate?

An oath to keep with a final breath
Most important question: Whose oath? Probably Leo's. That's the most obvious one. I can't really see it being anything else. I like the theory that Leo will have to choose between saving Calypso and staying alive. I have only read House of Hades once, so I don't feel like I can make any guesses as to who else this line might refer to. It is possible, of course, that the oath in question has not been made yet.
Question: Does this line mean that the person mentioned will have to die in order to fulfill their oath or does it mean that the person will die because they did not fulfill their oath? It sound more like the first choice.
What does "final breath" mean? Does it mean death? I can't think of anything else it could mean. Maybe, instead of the oath-maker dying to fulfill their oath they must kill to fulfill their oath?

And foes bear arms to the doors of death
We know what this means. Or do we?

Who will die?

I don't think any of the seven will die. The reason? No one dies in Percy Jackson. Sure, there were a few deaths in The Titan's Curse and The Last Olympian, but none of the very main characters died. This is a children's series.

That said, I do think that there is a possibility one of the seven will die. It is possible for this to happen in a children's book. Who is the most likely candidate? If I were writing the book, I would kill Leo. But I don't think Rick is going to do that. Leo is the fandom's favourite and besides, he deserves a happy ending. Okay, they all do. But if Rick had to kill one of the seven I think he would kill Frank or Hazel. They're not Percy and Annabeth. They haven't been in the series as long. And I can see one of their deaths meaning something. I personally hope Hazel doesn't die. If I had to choose between them I would kill Frank.

So, what about other characters? I don't think Nico will die. I don't think Nico should die. If he dies, I will be pretty mad, and not because he's one of my favourite characters. He isn't. I've never liked him much. But I think he is too important of a character. It's kind of difficult to explain. It would just be... wrong if he died.

I think Reyna is more likely to die than Nico, but I really hope she doesn't. I want her to continue to lead Camp Jupiter.

I don't think Coach Hedge will die, but you never know.

None of the main characters from the first series will die (like Grover, Tyson and Rachel). No one can kill of main characters if they aren't main characters anymore.

I don't think Octavian will die, unfortunately. But you never know. We might get lucky.

Clue Predictions:

Clue #1: A goddess says "One of you will die. One of you must die." That means one of them will die, right? Yes. I think so. Gods have always been right with their prophecies in this series. So, does this mean one of the seven will die? It certainly sounds like it. Of course their could be several ways around this. As in Hazel's case, dead people can come back. It's possible that one of the seven will die and become a god, or something like that. Or maybe Nike isn't talking specifically about the seven demigods. One of you must die. One of who? It probably refers to the seven, though. That makes most sense.
"You're magic will help you cheat in this contest but you can't cheat destiny." What contest? Does this just refer to the war with Gaea and the giants or is there some actual contest that Hazel is cheating in?

Clue #2: No, Jason. Not again. Is this a dream? I mean, if it isn't, that means Jason dies, right? I find interesting that Juno makes an appearance. Is she going to help them kill the giants? I don't really have any good theories about this clue.

Clue #3: What is Leo trying to do? Maybe it has something to do with Calypso.

Clue #4: Another Percy vs. Polybotes battle? Awesome. This clue doesn't really tell me anything interesting.

Clue #5: "You must bridge the gap between Roman and Greek, my child. Neither storm nor fire can succeed without you." This really does make it sound like "storm" and "fire" mean the Greek and Roman camps.
It sounds like Piper will play a major role in the last book. Aphrodite told her what she had to stop Gaea. That means that Piper will be the one to stop Gaea, unless, of course, she fails. But I don't think she will. OIt sounds like Piper will have to make some sort of sacrifice to defeat Gaea. Jason's life, maybe? Piper's own life? I'm very excited about this clue. Maybe after Blood of Olympus the fandom will stop saying Piper is useless.

Clue #6: I have no idea what this clue refers to. I'm not even going to make any guesses. One questions: What ghosts is Reyna talking about?

Clue #7: Why would Nico have to leave both camps? "If you let your anger rule you." Nico's fatal flaw is holding grudges. Will this have something to do with Blood of Olympus?

Clue #8: This clue doesn't really tell us much. Except that the giants are healing faster. Hmm...

Clue #9: I can't really get anything new from this clue. Only one question. Go down where? Where are they?

Random Note: Are all of the seven going to have chapters in Blood of Olympus? I don't think so. Nine POVs (The seven + Nico and Reyna) is a lot. So who will have a POV. We know for sure that Leo, Jason, Piper, Nico and Reyna do. Is it possible that Percy and Annabeth won't have chapters? Maybe their major part to play in the story is over. In clue #9 it is unclear whose perspective we're hearing from. It sounds like Annabeth. But it could be Percy. Or it could be someone else watching the two of them.

Alignment

I found another new personality typing system. This one is primarily meant for typing fictional characters. There are nine types: Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Lawful Neutral, True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, Lawful Evil, Neutral Evil, Chaotic Evil. You can read about alignment here.

Since Alignment has nine types like Enneagram, I thought I could connect them. Of course, alignment is not the same kind of system as enneagram, this is just for fun. Real people are obviously not good or evil. It's just a joke.

Type 1: Lawful Good
Type 2: Neutral Good
Type 3: Neutral Evil
Type 4: Chaotic Neutral
Type 5: True Neutral
Type 6: Lawful Neutral
Type 7: Chaotic Evil
Type 8: Lawful Evil
Type 9: Chaotic Good

I am making some edits for a few different fandoms with one character for each alignment type. I will post them soon.

The Four Temperaments

This post is not about Myers Briggs. To be clear, this post does not refer to the four temperaments in Myers Briggs (NF, NT, SJ and SP). This post is about a thing that I have known about for some time but have not really looked in to. The four temperaments are Sanguine, Melancholic, Phlegmatic and Choleric. Click here to read about them. No, really, you should click the link. I won't bother explaining any of it myself.

I assumed I was melancholic, but I took an internet quiz and it said I was choleric. Of course, internet quizzes are not always right. Neither melancholic nor choleric fit me, but they each include aspects of my personality. I read that most people are a mixture of two of the four temperaments, and that cleared it up.

I honestly do not like the four temperaments very much. They are way too simple. Only four types? But I decided that I may as well try to link it to Myers Briggs because, hey, why not. This was my thought process:

First: The obvious. How do the four temperaments correlate with the four temperaments?

NF: Obviously not Choleric or Phlegmatic. That leaves Melancholic and Sanguine. Both are pretty NF-ish.
NT: Uh... Could be Choleric. Could be Melancholic (kind of). Could be Phlegmatic. Not likely to be Sanguine, though.
SP: Not Melancholic. Probably not choleric. Maybe Phlegmatic? Possibly Sanguine?
SJ: Could be any of them, really...

Okay, this isn't working very well. The temperaments do seem to directly correlate with introvert/extrovert. Sanguine and Choleric are extroverted and Melancholic and Phlegmatic are introverted. It also kind of seems as if Melancholic and Choleric are judgers and Phlegmatic and Sanguine are percievers. That would mean that:
Melancholic: INFJ, INTJ, ISFJ, ISTJ
Choleric: ENFJ, ENTJ, ESFJ, ESTJ
Phlegmatic: INFP, INTP, ISFP, ISTP
Sanguine: ENFP, ENTP, ESFP, ESTP
But, wait. Shouldn't ENFJ and ESFJ be Sanguine? They aren't Choleric at all. And do INTJ and ISTJ fit Melancholic best? This correlation isn't perfect. At all.

Well, let's keep the introvert/extrovert thing but instead of judging/perceiving, let's use thinking/feeling. Melancholic and Sanguine correlate well with F and Choleric and Phlegmatic correlate well with T.
Melancholic: INFJ, ISFJ, INFP, ISFP
Choleric: ENTJ, ESTJ, ENTP, ESTP
Phlegmatic: INTP, ISTP, INTJ, ISTJ
Sanguine: ENFP, ESFP, ENFJ, ESFJ
No. That doesn't work at all. INTJ and ISTJ as Phlegmatic? Impossible.

Okay, okay. How about forgetting the extrovert/introvert thing and using judging/perceiving and thinking/feeling.
Melancholic: INFJ, ISFJ, ENFJ, ESFJ
Choleric: ENTJ, INTJ, ESTJ, ISTJ
Phlegmatic: INTP, ENTP, ISTP, ESTP
Sanguine: ENFP, INFP, ESFP, ISFP
Not at all. ENFJ and ESFJ can't possibly be Melancholic. INFP and ISFP can't possibly be Sanguine.

What about Intuition/Sensing? Can I use that? Maybe, But I don't see any direct correlation.

I decided at this point that the four temperaments did not correlate directly with Myers Briggs. But of course I still have to find the closest thing to correlation. What if I use I/E, F/T and P/J? That means that:
Melancholic: IxFJ
Choleric: ExTJ
Phlegmatic: IxTP
Sanguine: ExFP
Any types that do not fit directly into one of the four temperaments will be divided between two. Here is a table:

MBTI
Temperament
ENTJ
Choleric
INTJ
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic
ENTP
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Sanguine
INTP
Phlegmatic
ENFJ
Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine
INFJ
Melancholic
ENFP
Sanguine
INFP
Phlegmatic, Melancholic, Sanguine
ESTJ
Choleric
ISTJ
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic
ESFJ
Choleric, Melancholic, Sanguine
ISFJ
Melancholic
ESTP
Choleric, Phlegmatic, Sanguine
ISTP
Phlegmatic
ESFP
Sanguine
ISFP
Phlegmatic, Melancholic, Sanguine

It is not perfect at all. But it was my best guess.

Two Trailers

This post is about the new Mockingjay Part 1 Teaser Trailer and the first Hobbit Battle of Five Armies Trailer.

So, The Mockingjay trailer first. It was great. I loved the trailers that came before this one (the ones with President Snow), but it was nice to see a regular trailer. I love Katniss' line at the end. I am really excited for this movie, even though Mockingjay was my least favourite of The Hunger Games books. The movies have been getting better so far (in my opinion). We'll see if the trend continues. The reason that the Mockingjay book wasn't my favourite was because it was a bit to slow and a bit to fast at different times. It just seemed a bit off. That's something that can be easily fixed in a movie.

And now I'll talk about the Hobbit trailer. It is one of my favourite trailers of all time if not my absolute favourite. I watched it five times in a row without stopping and have watched it at least five times more since then. I'm really bad at doing trailer analyzing things, so I'll leave that to other people who are much smarter and have better vision. I loved that they used Pippin's song. That was one of my favourite parts of The Lord of the Rings. I am so, so excited to see the last movie in this trilogy. I know it will be my favourite movie of this year (not that I'm really seeing that many). But it is so awesome I can't even really function.

Ten Things I Want to See in Doctor Who Series Eight

  1. The thing I am hoping for most in series 8 is that Clara and the Doctor don't have a romantic relationship. I'm a little tired of that, honestly. Plus, I really like their friendship.
  2. New companions! Or at least one. I like it when their are multiple companions at the same time, and I want some new well developed characters.
  3. I really want The Master to come back. He is by far my favourite Doctor Who villain. I love John Simm, but I wouldn't mind a new actor either. And what about a female master???
  4. Sequel episode for The Girl in the Fireplace. Please? Not everything in that episode was explained and it's one of my favourites.
  5. A Matt Smith appearance. It's not likely to happen in series 8, but maybe in another anniversary special?
  6. Some new and interesting time lord characters (and also time ladies).
  7. More of the War Doctor. He should have more than one episode.
  8. River Song. I really, really want River to come back.
  9. At least one really scary episode. There haven't really been any recently, with the exception of The Angels Take Manhattan.
  10. More gay/lesbian relationships.
Watch this video to find out more about the episodes in series 8. Actually, just check out all the Doctor Who videos on that channel.

My Thoughts: Animagi and Patronuses

Something I noticed in the Harry Potter books (and I'm sure pretty much everyone else noticed it too) is that the idea of a patronus and the idea of an animagus seem very similar. This post covers some of my ideas about the patronus charm and a person's animagus form and the similarities and differences between the two. Some of this is just guessing.

A patronus is the glowing animal that is created when a person casts the patronus charm. It is different for every person. Each wizard has their own unique patronus and it can change if something emotional happens in their life. For instance, Nymphadora Tonks' patronus changed to the form of Remus Lupin's patronus when she fell in love with him. Another example is that after his twin brother Fred died, George Weasley was unable to cast a patronus.

A patronus is made of a person's happy memories. That is perhaps why most dark wizards can not cast one; they do not have any happy memories. Severus Snape was able to cast a patronus because he loved Lily Potter. Dolores Umbridge was perhaps able to cast a patronus because she did not believe herself to be evil and had good memories. Casting a corporeal patronus requires great magical skill. It supposedly takes less skill to cast a non-corporeal patronus. However, while I think skill and having happy memories obviously plays a role in whether someone is able to cast a patronus or not, there are other factors that determine whether someone can cast a patronus. Perhaps confidence plays a role. Harry was able to cast a patronus in Prisoner of Azcaban because he knew he could. It also might have something to do with how well a person can concentrate on a specific happy memory. Perhaps a non-corporeal patronus indicates that a wizard is not concentrating enough.

Something that confuses me is that Hermione Granger had quite a bit of trouble casting a patronus. This is odd, since she is a very skilled witch and obviously has many happy memories. Perhaps it was because she did not have enough confidence in her abilities. Or maybe it was difficult for her to focus on one specific happy memory.

An animagus is a wizard who can turn into an animal at will (though they do not get to decide which animal they turn into). In their animagus form, a person is still them self. It is, however, unclear whether or not the nature of their particular animal has any affect on their personality. It is difficult to become an animagus and takes great magical skill. Even so, I believe that theoretically, if he or she tried hard enough, any wizard or witch could become an animagus (unlike in the case of a patronus which not every one can conjure). The form an animagus takes is possibly an animal that represents that person's soul.

It is never stated that a persons animagus form can change. I suppose that would depend on whether or not a person's soul can change. My guess is that, if it is possible, the change wouldn't happen as easily as with a patronus.

The obvious difference between a person in their animagus form and a person casting the patronus charm is that the person in animagus form is the animal and the animal created by the patronus charm is made up of a person's happy memories and not the person himself. Therefore, it is my belief that a persons animagus form and a person's patronus can be but are not necessarily the same. In all the instances where we know what form the patronus of an animagus takes, the patronus and animagus have been the same.

Doctor Who: Why Does Everyone Hate Steven Moffat?

Tumblr has been annoying me recently. I have seen some people complaining about Steven Moffat, and while I agree that he is annoying, I think people are unfair to him and blindly hate him for some reason. Why? I really have no idea. I saw someone saying something like "Hey, remember in the Russell T. Davies era when they didn't have special effects so they had to rely on plot???"  WHAT? I don't understand. Was this person saying that the plot in Moffat's era is somehow inferior to the plot in Davies' era? Sure, personal opinion, but I disagree. I feel like people say that Steven Moffat's plots are bad when what they really mean is that they're complicated.

People also talk about " plot holes". They say that Moffat's era is full of them, and sure, there are some. But seriously, how can people not realize that there are just as many, if not more, in Davies' era? And, you can't blame writers for plot holes, really. It's impossible to be perfect. Also, a plot hole is something that is either inconsistent or unexplained in the plot. It is not a point in the story that you personally don't like or personally don't understand.

I have also seen people say that Steven Moffat is sexist. I really don't see how he is, honestly. Some people say that all the women are all the same or that the female companions are just "flirty sidekicks". First of all, I disagree about all the women being the same. Amy, River and Clara (the three main women in Moffat's era) all have different personalities. Amy and River are perhaps quite similar, but they are kind of related. Also, two people can have slightly similar personalities. There is nothing wrong with that. As for Clara, she is very different from Amy, in my opinion, and even more different from River. As for the three of them being "flirty sidekicks" I don't think this is a fair point. River flirts with the Doctor because they love each other. Amy flirts with the Doctor because that is kind of her personality. I don't see Clara as being very flirty. Anyway, in Davies era, both Martha and Rose flirt with the doctor. And what is wrong with being flirty? No one hates Jack Harkness.

Another reason why people might hate Steven Moffat so much is because of something I call the "it was better before'  way of looking at things. I can totally understand people who feel this way. If you've been watching a TV show for a while, and you really like it, you might start to think of it as being better than it actually is. You would be really excited for new episodes to come out. but when they do, you are disappointed. You expected something better. You decide that the show is going down hill. It was so much better before. Or, in some other cases, people are so attached to the TV show or whatever, that they feel it can't possibly get better, so obviously it will get worse. I feel like this is why some people hate The Lord of the Rings movies when they like the books. Or hate the later books in a series. Sure, your perfectly entitled to your own opinions, but I try not to be blinded by my love for a fandom. When the new season of Doctor Who comes out, I am going to keep an open mind.
So, in conclusion, while I know that people can have their own opinions, I do not hate Steven Moffat. I think he is a great writer. Here is a link talking about plot holes in Doctor Who.

Blood of Olympus Predictions: Revised and Updated

The cover for Blood of Olympus came out and it's really cool. So I decided to make an updated version of my Blood of Olympus predictions. You can find my first predictions post here.

WARNING: This post includes spoilers for the Heroes of Olympus series. Obviously.

Who will die? Well, I don't think very many people will die. Despite what many people wrongly believe, Rick does not kill very many protagonists. Here is a list:
  1. Bianca
  2. Zoe
  3. Hazel (This doesn't count)
  4. Lee Fletcher
  5. Castor
  6. Pan
  7. Daedalus
  8. Beckendorf
  9. Michael Yew
  10. Silena
As you can see, not very may characters died in the series so far. I don't think it's very likely that many will die in Blood of Olympus.
Percy: Will not die. I am almost absolutely sure of this. This is children's fiction.

Annabeth: Won't die. See Percy.

Piper: Probably won't die. I don't really see any point in killing her. If a main character dies, there has to be a point to it. They have to die for a reason, and I can't see any good reason for Piper to die. Then again, Piper has played the smallest role in the quest of the seven. maybe she has a bigger part to play (and a reason to die) that we don't know of yet.

Jason: Might die, but I doubt it. There are a few reasons I can think of to kill him. I talked about one in my last Blood of Olympus predictions post.

Hazel: When I did my first predictions post, I didn't think hazel was likely to die. Now I'm not so sure. I still think she probably won't die, but she might.

Frank: Has a higher chance of dying than anyone above. As I talked about in my last predictions post, the stick of firewood is important to the story. If it doesn't play a role in Blood of Olympus I feel that would be anticlimactic. Frank might burn his firewood on purpose and sacrfice himself somehow to stop Gaea. then again, something similar happened in Son of Neptune, so I don't think that exact thing will happen again.

Leo: Has probably the highest chance of dying out of the seven. If one of them dies, I think it will be him. Why? See the prophecy section.

Nico: Might die, but not untill Percy knows about Nico's little crush. If any main character will die, it's more likely to be Nico than some of the others. But I don't really think he will.

Reyna: She might die. I can see reasons for it to happen. I said in the last post that I didn't think she would die, but I kind of changed my opinion. It's not like I think she will die, but I think it's possible.

Now for the prophecy.

Seven Half-blood shall answer the call
This line has obviously come true already. We know who the seven half-bloods are and I don't think there is any more meaning to be found in this line.

To storm or fire the world must fall
As far as I can tell, this line has not come true yet. Piper thought the line might refer to Leo and Jason. Maybe it does, but since Piper said it that means it is probably not true. Storm might refer to Percy, as many people have said. Maybe fire refers to Frank. Maybe storm and fire are the greek and roman camps. Honestly, I think none of those explanations is true. I think everyone is missing something. I have no idea what that something is, though.
Also, what does "the world must fall" mean? There are two obvious meanings. First is that the world is the actually world, meaning that the world would be destroyed. But I doubt it because this is a children's book. "The world" could also refer to Gaea. I think that's probably true. Or maybe "fall" means something else. I don't know.

An oath to keep with a final breath
I am convinced this line refers to Leo in some way. I might be wrong, but whatever. I kind of like the idea of Leo dying. No, don't kill me, I just think it might make a good ending.
Some people think this line refers to something other than death. But seriously, what else could it mean? Someone in the comments mentioned immortality. (more on that below) and I remember someone somewhere thought it might mean marriage. You know, the marriage oath, or whatever. But Rick Riordan said that Percy and Annabeth aren't getting married because they are sixteen. Plus, that's way too optimistic.

And foes bear arms to the doors of death
This line has supposedly come true already.

I got more comments on my Blood of Olympus post than all my other posts combined. I have decided to respond to them here:

I think that for the whole STORM OR FIRE bit might refer to Percy and frank. It's already mentioned that frank might die for Percy (S.O.N) because Percy cant make a sacrifice, so I think that Percy is doing to attempt to defeat Gaea (storm), but Frank uses his life-stick (fire) to actually defeat Gaea.
Maybe. I honestly don't think it's very likely that storm refers to Percy.  It seems like an odd way to put his power. If storm meant Percy, why not say "to sea or fire the world must fall" or something like that. I know the prophecies are deliberately confusing, but I still think it doesn't make much sense. I also think that storm or fire might not necessarily refer to people.

A lot of people are over looking key things. The Southern Wind god shifted between two forms, the fiery Greek, and the stormy Roman, and told Jason he would have to decide. It was a pretty big hint towards Storm and Fire being the two camps.
What are Greeks famous for? Greek Fire. What did the Legion Eagle do? Fire lightning bolts. Lots of people have made Oaths, not just Leo, so don't lock that line down yet. It could refer to Reyna's duties are Praetor and her oath to serve the Roman Empire. It might talk about Nico's promise to take the Parthenos and stop the battle. Or it could be the obvious, and talk about Leo's promise to Calypso.
Hell, if Storm or Fire are referring to people, Storm could be Jason and Percy together and Fire could mean Frank and Leo together. Both characters on either side have connections to that element, so it could happen.
All in all, I get this really bad feeling that Nico is going to die, and he's gonna send word from the Underworld that he wants Jason to tell everyone his mancrush, or perform some ceremony to partially summon him so he can tell them face-to-ethereal-face. It would be a shame, because he's my baby, but it could happen. Just like anything.
Or Frank and Hazel will die together, since she's living on borrowed time and he's supposed to have a short lifespan anyway? For that matter, she might promise him that she'll watch over his lifestick, despite being in a fireprrof bag. Then again, no one said that bag was indestructable. Anyone could snatch it out of his hands and tear it to shreds and get to the stick.

Storm or fire might refer to the two camps but that just seems to obvious. It might mean "Greek and Roman" but maybe it doesn't refer to the camps. Maybe it refers to the different forms of the gods, like with the Southern Wind god.
I doubt the oath line refers to Reyna. She isn't one of the seven. Same with Nico. I think that line probably refers to one of the seven demigods, they are the ones important in the prophecy, right?
I don't think Nico will die before telling Percy about his crush. I feel like he has to tell him face to face. You might be right about the ghost thing, though.
I don't think both Hazel and Frank will die. It's a children's book.

The part of the prophecy "an oath to keep with a final breath" most likely refers to Leo. He has so far made the most notable promise yet. And if you think about it, the prophecy happens in order. The seven demigods were gathered, Piper raises the question in the House of Hades of about the storm or fire part (how only one can survive), Leo promises Calypso that he will return by swearing on the River Styx, and a Titan and a Giant help Percy and Annabeth escape from Tartarus. All of that cannot be a coincidence. And if you think about it, all the earlier prophecies in the Percy Jackson and Olympian Series happened in order. Why would Rick Riordan break that trend now? Having said that, I think people are taking the prophecy wayyyyy to literally especially the about the oath. What will happen is Leo will save the world by his fire powers making the storm or fire part of the prophecy true, and Jason will die while helping (sorry Piper). And he will go back to Calypso. The Blood of Olympus is going to be one of the last Percy Jackson books for a while that tell about his life. Rick Riordan will obviously have to satisfy the readers by supplying enough information on all of the Seven's lives to keep us happy for a little at least. So, anyway, Leo will go to Calypso but he won't due. On Calypso's Island he will become immortal and live happily ever after with her. It will be his final breath of mortality that he will keep his promise with. He won't have a final breath before death, he will have a final breath of mortality before going into immortality. He won't die, he will just stop being mortal.
I think you're mostly right about the prophecy happening in order. Except, I wouldn't consider Piper talking about storm or fire fulfilling that part of the prophecy. That line and the oath line haven't come true yet. That's one of the reasons that I think the last line of the prophecy might not be finished.
I think you're being way to optimistic about the oath to keep with a final breath. Leo becoming immortal wouldn't be important to the plot. It would be part of the conclusion of the story, not the climax. The prophecy never refers to things like that. Unless Leo becoming immortal somehow helps to defeat Gaea, I don't think your idea has much chance of being true.

i agree that leo is the one who will die because not only of his oath but because of his past especially cause gaea visited him directly but not to other demigods, my question is why would gaea want to break leo's spirit why not the other seven and she also said that the fates wouldn't allow her to kill leo,YET! And I also think he will die because of his talk with nemisis. and in HOH it said that either leo or jason could die while defeating gaea or the earth. I think this will happen, I think that leo will die while defeating gaea, cuz to me he is the one that deserves to be a hero in the end the most.
I too like the idea of Leo dying to save the world. I'm not sure why Gaea visited Leo directly. It's very interesting. It might mean the Leo is the most important one of the seven.

Hmm, Rick has confirmed that not all of the seven will return home. The last line might not mean death, the troll does like to trick us after all!
You know, Rick never confirmed that one of the seven will die. That was a rumor someone started an now everyone believes it.  He would never say a spoiler like that before the book came out. If you don't believe me, look at his twitter page.

I agree with most of this but since when has rick told us what the prophecy will be about? Seriously if you ask me anything that rick has the characters say about the prophecy is void. But if this someone is storm someone is fire why not Percy as storm.Maybe this is just me being too optimistic but I think there is a reason Rick had Hazel say that they needed Percy and Annabeth so much and that he sent them to tarturus to face what only one demigod has ever survived( I would say that he had Nico say Percy was the most powerful as a reason too but that can be explained away because Nico is gay for Percy) and that reason is foreshadowing that Percy is more powerful then Jason that Jason will try to be storm but can't and so Percy comes in with his hurricane and does what Jason can't. I hope this happens but I doubt it nkt at all because of some peoples theory that Jason is the main character in this series or that Rick is making Jason better because he's doing the opposite to me I doubt it beacause like I said earlier Rick would never actually tell us what a line of the prophecy means thia far before it. The theory with storm and fire representing greek and roman I like except I feal like it's too obvious so my favorite is Frank's wood. I can't agree more that rick would not just take away his biggest fatal flaw.
Your comment actually changed several of my opinions, most importantly my opinion that Piper was probably right about storm or fire meaning Leo and Jason. I think you are right to believe that whatever the characters think about the prophecy is probably wrong.

Here are some links to some other theories I found around the internet by searching "Blood of Olympus predictions" on Google and a few of my own notes:
  1. This person basically says that two character will die because Gaea needs the blood of two characters to rise. I disagree, mostly because I don't think Rick Riordan would kill two main characters in a children's book. But it's a possibility. I can understand why this person wants Gaea to rise. It would make a more exciting ending. But maybe she doesn't actually need to rise for the ending to be interesting.
  2. I don't have much to say about this person's theory. They have concerns for Nico and Leo, especially Nico. I don't think he will die, but he might.
  3. This person has a theory saying that Leo will set Calypso free. I think it's possible, but there was no mention of the oath to keep with a final breath. I like the prediction about Jason. It seems possible.

Myers Briggs Links

I was going through my bookmarks yesterday and I decided to put a list of some of my favourite Myers Briggs stuff. So, here you go:

  • 16 Personalities (I like their type descriptions.)
  • Truity (Technically it costs money but they have some stuff for free. Not only Myers Briggs.)
  • Similar Minds (They lots of stuff other than Myers Briggs. This is where I first took the test.)
  • Type Finder (Just another Myers Briggs site.)
  • Tyoe Logic (Really weird type descriptions.)
  • Human Metrics (This isn't my favourite site, personally, but I'm linking it anyway.)
  • Personality Page (I'm sorry, this website is really confusing. It's really interesting, though, if you can find your way around it.)
  • Sociotype (So, this isn't technically Myers Briggs. I tried looking into Socionics, but I couldn't get my head around it. It seems the same as Myers Briggs, but apparently it's different.)
  • A Little Bit of Personality (I can't remember how I found this blog. It's kind of random.)
  • Oddly Developed Types (This site takes a different approach to Myers Briggs.)

The Romione/Harmony Debate: The Full Interview

Here is the full article that I talked about a few days ago where Emma Watson interviews J. K. Rowling.

The Full Interview

As I suspected, J. K. Rowling did not actually say that she regretted pairing Ron and Hermione. While she did say that their may have been problems in their relationship and that there may be chemistry between Harry and Hermione, there was totally no need for everyone to overreact. Never assume anything, people. This interview does not give Harmony shippers any more ammunition than they had before. It's just the musings of an author who has had years to think about her series.
