Doctor Who: Why Does Everyone Hate Steven Moffat?

Tumblr has been annoying me recently. I have seen some people complaining about Steven Moffat, and while I agree that he is annoying, I think people are unfair to him and blindly hate him for some reason. Why? I really have no idea. I saw someone saying something like "Hey, remember in the Russell T. Davies era when they didn't have special effects so they had to rely on plot???"  WHAT? I don't understand. Was this person saying that the plot in Moffat's era is somehow inferior to the plot in Davies' era? Sure, personal opinion, but I disagree. I feel like people say that Steven Moffat's plots are bad when what they really mean is that they're complicated.

People also talk about " plot holes". They say that Moffat's era is full of them, and sure, there are some. But seriously, how can people not realize that there are just as many, if not more, in Davies' era? And, you can't blame writers for plot holes, really. It's impossible to be perfect. Also, a plot hole is something that is either inconsistent or unexplained in the plot. It is not a point in the story that you personally don't like or personally don't understand.

I have also seen people say that Steven Moffat is sexist. I really don't see how he is, honestly. Some people say that all the women are all the same or that the female companions are just "flirty sidekicks". First of all, I disagree about all the women being the same. Amy, River and Clara (the three main women in Moffat's era) all have different personalities. Amy and River are perhaps quite similar, but they are kind of related. Also, two people can have slightly similar personalities. There is nothing wrong with that. As for Clara, she is very different from Amy, in my opinion, and even more different from River. As for the three of them being "flirty sidekicks" I don't think this is a fair point. River flirts with the Doctor because they love each other. Amy flirts with the Doctor because that is kind of her personality. I don't see Clara as being very flirty. Anyway, in Davies era, both Martha and Rose flirt with the doctor. And what is wrong with being flirty? No one hates Jack Harkness.

Another reason why people might hate Steven Moffat so much is because of something I call the "it was better before'  way of looking at things. I can totally understand people who feel this way. If you've been watching a TV show for a while, and you really like it, you might start to think of it as being better than it actually is. You would be really excited for new episodes to come out. but when they do, you are disappointed. You expected something better. You decide that the show is going down hill. It was so much better before. Or, in some other cases, people are so attached to the TV show or whatever, that they feel it can't possibly get better, so obviously it will get worse. I feel like this is why some people hate The Lord of the Rings movies when they like the books. Or hate the later books in a series. Sure, your perfectly entitled to your own opinions, but I try not to be blinded by my love for a fandom. When the new season of Doctor Who comes out, I am going to keep an open mind.
So, in conclusion, while I know that people can have their own opinions, I do not hate Steven Moffat. I think he is a great writer. Here is a link talking about plot holes in Doctor Who.
